The Sun IS looking like never before (Proof: SDO AIA pic and more)
I don't watch the Sun lately, but about 2-3 days ago noticed, how bright was the sky in the middle of the night. This happened before.
Today my phone got screwed up and unusual way: it made me look at Spaceweather.com, where they talked about an M class solar flare today at 4:24 UT.: still not a big deal, happened before, but then I looked at the SDO pic on the left side:

[link to spaceweather.com]

...it has NEVER been like this before.

So I go to SDO's site, and try to find more data (pics and movies) from today. Turns out the data links are all messed up, there is only a few days of June 2014 as historical data, whicever year I click on.

Sure...there is a huge "S" shaped line stretching all over the whole disk, plus the filaments cover most everything, including the coronal hole . I will post another link to a "usual" SDO pic.

so you have two SDO images on two different days.. what does that prove? The image you posted is NOT abnormal.. they are just getting better at details.

OK, let me put it that way:

Instead to several smaller, scattered magnetic loops, they seem to unite in one enormous one in the middle.

And that big long filament along the bottom doesn't look good.

Thank you OP.

Today I felt emotional like I feel these days when the sun does it's thing - but since there wasn't an X-flare - just the M last night, I wondered what was going on.

OP, I see you have been a member of at least 7 years.

So I am guessing you are able to 'see' the sun differences better than some who don't pay enough attention often enough.

A filament looks like someone drew a black line on it (am I right OP?). They are ENORMOUS.
