Anybody else had the coughing virus from hell?

Bronchitis is running rampid here in the Atlanta area. Steroids cleared it up here in two days. But I thought lungs were going coughed up at one point.

BTW ..... Most cough/congestion syrups can SERIOUSLY raise your blood pressure. Steroids also. Be careful taking this stuff.

Had it for 3 weeks in November. In Michigan. Headache, exhaustion, then coughing, coughing coughing!!! Lost 10 lbs bcs I had no desire to eat.

The really bad coughing lasted about five days. Then it was steroid time. Mucinex was not helping. Nothing was. The virus itself about 3-4 weeks. Crazy. Now I am coming down with it. Always the last to get it no matter what I do.

In Alberta. I had it in October for 3 weeks and my gf had it for the same time and had to get hooked up to oxygen twice with double doses.

Crazy I read this. I just got a chest cold and have been coughing up some crazy stuff. a buncha people I work with have it as well. I haven't had a chest cold or flu symptoms in over 2 years and Ive been around plenty of sick people (Janitor at E.R. Hospital) mom, gma, ect.. I just had a really bad sinus congestion the first 2 days, on my 5th day now with slightly less coughing than 3rd and 4th day. No fever. Really bad headache's (also don't ever have these)

The coughing bug appears as a normal head cold, sinuses with a tearing sore throat and difficulty breathing. It appears to lift after about a week of fevers yet lungs remain heavily congested. Anywhere between five weeks and two months later the original cold and fever symptoms return and the sinuses pass the cold into with antibodies into the digestive system and lungs. All this may lead to labrynthitus or pulmonary nueritis which are infections of the inner ear. Nueritis is identical to labrynthitus but without the tinitus. It affects balance so be very careful if driving or operating machinery .

The other popular bug that is all the rage is the norrovirus projectile vomitting bug, which I have avoided. Friends with this bug and I have deliberately avoided each other over Christmas because the consequences of both infections at the same time is obviously dangerous.

There have been deaths locally due to these bugs, children and the already weak being at most risk.

I had this cough. It lasted 1/2 a day for me. I haven't had a cold in over 8 years because of baking soda. Everybody in the office is coughing their guts out except the ones using baking soda.

A combination of oils will eliminate any and all respiratory tract ailments. Use peppermint oil, oregano oil, eucalyptus oil and thyme oil. The peppermint oil helps open the airways with mild pain relief allowing the oregano oil to neutralize any viruses and bacteria. The thyme oil acts as an antispasmodic suppressing coughs while the eucalyptus oil acts as a decongestant breaking up mucus and also as an antibacterial agent alongside oregano oil.

All together it should not take more than 5 days of continuous use for just about anything to clear up.

Don't use cough drops. They only sooth you while you're sucking on it. What really happens is that the sugar creates an acidic environment for the virus to thrive. You need to alkalize. Baking soda, lemons, celery, lettuce, and carrots are among the best at alkalizing. Stay away from sugar and alcohol. Starches convert to sugar as well.

for 3 and half months now i've had somethin like this, and my son, and my neighbours, everywhwere you go round here people coughing, you'd think because of that people would be kind of used to it, but no not so, if someone sees you coughing in the street you do get concerned looks, because people are noting the amount of other people coughing

yep sore/scratchy throat and cough for a good week now, slowly getting better I think but still sick, friend of mine has been sick too. She advised me some vitamin c and d actually....among other things, may take her up on that. Should increase dosage anyway/start getting more of it anyway.

The simple answer to this problem is heat. Hot liquids, all the time. Goes away within 3 days.

I'll say it again , look up whooping cough , or the 100 day cough , there has been an outbreak here to , it is considered a notifiable disease meaning doctors must notify the government , it's mostly dangerous to infants and the elderly , only young children seem to make the whooping sound not so much adults , my family just had it and we where all affected differently , I just got a cold like flu for about 5 days , my partner on the other hand got very sick and had insane bouts of coughing and is only getting over it now 3 weeks later

I had it last year as well. Miserable, coughed until my ribs hurt so bad I had to hug myself to cough. Not flu, not bronchitis, not a cold. I think Nyquil and Dayquil were what I used.

Yes, I've had it; just getting over it now after 1 week + of coughing, wheezing, low grade fever, sore throat, and nausea. It was nasty. It has to work itself out, even my S.O. had it, took antibiotics, and he's still hacking.

Copied from my reply to As a health care professional, I opt for doing everything reasonable to avoid getting sick, and if one does get sick despite ones best prevention efforts then know how to knock it out as quickly as possible to avoid "complications" and other opportunistic infections that can be worse than the initial malady!

Avoidance is a first line defense, beware fomite to face/ mucous membrane via hands transmission of infectious agents, frequent hand-washing for minimum of 30 seconds soap time (don't cut this short...count to 30 seconds as lathering up), and in between use hand-santitizers after any public hand contact, and remember in your home if family or room-mate is sick same scenario. Colloidal Silver spray bottle is a great idea to have on hand in the car to disinfect your nasal passages in case someone sneezes or coughs near you.

Prevention involves the above, PLUS priming your immune system especially during cold/ flu season. Vitamin D3 three times per day at 5-10,000 units per dose, and they don't taste bad at all so I just crunch the gel caps in my mouth and swallow, no water needed. Vitamin C 3,000 mg divided into 3 doses of 1K mg per dose every day. Echinacea 1,500 mg per day maintenance. Zinc 30 mg per day. A good multi. And unless you are a menstruating woman, avoid iron in your multi vites, as iron suppresses the immune system.

If you wind up catching the flu, it's important to fight the invader with the right weapons, further amp-up your immune system, hit it with anti-infectious herbs and supplements, and allow your immune-system to fight unimpeded by fever-lowering aspirin, tylenol or ibuprofen as unless your fever is over 103.5 a fever is good for fighting off infectious agents, it's the body's prime tool for knocking out an infection, and generally healthy people aren't harmed by sub-103 fevers (consult a physician if you have chronic health issues before implementing such a strategy. Immune up-regulation for acute infections involves herbs such as: andrographis 3 grams equivalent, IgG concentrate with 40% or higher Immunoglobulin G content (colostrum extracts 2 grams), lactoferrin 200mg 3 times daily, beta-a,3/1-6-D-Glucan 100 mg 3 times daily, Larix/ larch tree bark extract 1,000 mg 3 times daily, Sambucol gargle and sip slowly 3-4 times daily, garlic and ginger, Berberine 500 mg 3 times daily, Astragalus concentrate 1,000 mg twice daily (4 to 1 extract), Arteminisin (wormwood) 100mg twice a day, Agaricus blazei mushroom extract 30% polysaccharide 500 mg three times per day, Oregano oil extract 10 to 1 extract 150 mg per taken 3 times a day, Propolis 1,000 mg three times a day, Clove extract with 30% polyphenols twice a day, Rosemary extract and/or oil in a diffuser breathing the vapors, Grapefruit seed extract 500 mg twice a day Myrrh gum 600 mg three times a day, Zinc gluconate lozenges 30 mg zinc 3-5 times daily, Vitamin A temporarily 50,000 units twice a day, Vitamin C 1,000 mg every hour or two up to bowel tolerance / watery bowel movements, make sure to drink lots of pure water with all of these supplements. Colloidal silver gargles, then slowly swallowing while lying down to optimize throat contact time similar to the sambucol /black elderberry extract. Gargling with warm salt water is helpful, as well as alternating with 3% hydrogen peroxide gargles every couple of hours one or the other. A hot epsom salt bath with sea salt and rosemary oil is also a great thing to do before bed to replicate or bring on a mild fever which weakens the infectious agent and amps up the immune response.
