Thing is with the Lisbon Treaty is that countries just cannot leave.
The whole treaty is broken if only one leaves: a new treaty has to be constructed. It really is set in stone (in the EU dictators' minds anyway - and they do rule Europe with a rod of iron, look at Scotland's experience: that 'election' was stolen).

That's partly why a Greek departure would cause massive waves. The other thing is that the departure of any country from the EU would spell out loud and clear that the EU project is a failure, the emperor has no clothes, and it's not a democratic institution.

The fantasy vision behind the EU originally was that we would all be jolly good fellows to each other and help struggling nations to get up to speed. That's why so many eastern european countries couldn't wait to get in and get their snouts in the very lucrative trough.

Clearly, Greece has been treated like shit to try to get it to toe the EU line. It's had sanctions imposed, the EU's parachuted in unelected EU officials to run the country (in the birthplace of democracy! ) and generally been terribly kicked around. Sadly, I fear that Greece will be Scotlanded come Sunday.
