Didn't realize a person needed training for common sense and basic humanity.

Exactly. That dog was pure love. And he/she behaved precisely how a well behaved dog should.

Even after the first shot, the poor little guy's tail was still wagging. It stopped after the second and final.

I used to be an animal control officer for several years. The best training just comes from being a dog owner yourself. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that even agitated, aggressive dogs often will follow commands such "No! Sit!", etc. And scared, confused dogs such as in the video can be controlled by softly talking to them using words such as "good dog", "It's o.k.", etc. And scared, shy dogs will most likely even come to you if you kneel down to their level and call them.

The funniest call I ever went on to assist a cop with two "vicious" pit bulls was an early morning call where someone had fled the police & left his dogs in the car. When I got there the cop was standing by his car about 30 feet from the other vehicle. The dogs barked when I walked up to the car. So I softly said, "Do you have to potty? Come on, let's go pee-pee." Haha, they both started wagging their tails and I opened the door, leashed them up and took them over to an area with dirt. Boy, did they have to go, poor guys. They were happy & I loaded them into my truck. The cop was speechless!

Luckily, for those two we held them in pc after the owner was picked up & went to jail. After a couple of weeks a family member came to get them.

But I think a big problem some cops have is that dogs can sense their fear. The main thing is to not show fear of them.

I wish we had more perspective than just a silent video.

As somebody who almost lost his arm to a dog bite...there is justification in killing a dog to protect a human life!

Had the dog bitten somebody? Did they need to test it for rabies or something? Had the dog KILLED somebody? Where is the owner in all of this? Was this dog just running around a neighborhood and menacing people? What is the rest of the story?!

I won't just pass judgment on the cops...I don't know the whole story!

The cop said that he feared for his life! Stupid pig! That dog did not show any aggression at all! Why do the courts even believe these ass holes? I guess the owner settled for $50,000.00 but the pos cop kept his job.

I'm sure they were ordered to kill it. Many towns don't have an animal control department so the cops have to go bust a cap and toss it in the trash...keep your animals on a leash.

fuck that dog hell I shot a stray rotwieller in my front yard yesterday morning with birdshot, stupid owners, stupid dogs think they own the fucking world keep your fucking mutts in your own goddamn yard!!!, "OMG you shot a stray dog blah blah" its ok when nothing happens "but" by god if the dog would have came in the yard and tore up one of my kids, then it would be "OMG why didnt you just shoot the dog" after it ripped your little girls arm off.
