I'm a waiter at Waffle House and it's been so hectic but I've maintained a positive attitude and my customers have been great! I'm happy to be able to provide a nice holiday meal for people! Quoting: lightchild_uk For many the days of double and triple time have long gone. I am working today and tomorrow and I don't get paid any more than any other week day. I heard the same thing from people at the grocery store yesterday. They said the store was open on Christmas Day and they were getting no extra or overtime pay. Its a shame that some employers don't value their employees. No holidays, no extra pay ...nothing. Thank You!!! |

I used to be one of them and there was a time when it meant TRIPPLE PAY - those of us who aren't deceiving ourselves about most of the so called "holy-days" consider it just another day ... we certainly are not heros - and the welfare in uniform should be grateful to US for having a job, home and clothes on their back if you really care about them, you wouldn't shop or eat out on these days DUH Last Edited by Sunny Daze on 12/25/2014 02:52 PM |

For some people, MONEY is NOT the most important thing in life. You can't take money to your grave but hopefully you can take your memories..and many wonderful memories are created on holidays. Some people have NO choice but to work today. If they don't show up for work, they will be out of a job. Merry Christmas to you. I hope you have the day off. |

But what if it was your grandmother who was locked out of her house with her Yorkshire yapping away hungry on the other side of the door? That's what I'm talking about. Like the text I sent to a buddy yesterday: "Called out Christmas Eve to get someone home 300 miles away for their holidays ....... I'm a goddamn hero with a pissed off family!!". I have "the day off' for the rest of my life (retired) and having worked for forty years, I wouldn't leave home on a holiday and force others to work ... and I wouldn't walk across the stree to celebrate Xmas because I am not fooling my self or lying to my kids about the REAL "reason for the season" ---which is to give Korp Amerika MORE of our precious time and hard earned money - trying to BUY love Last Edited by Sunny Daze on 12/25/2014 03:41 PM |

As far as giving money to Korp Amerika, I made all of my Christmas gifts this year. And the one's I didn't make consisted of food that I bought at the store and put into baskets. If you worked 40 years and are retired, I'm going to assume that you are close to my age, 60. If that is the case, you can remember growing up when everything was closed on Sunday and no one ever worked on a Holiday unless they were a police officer, fire man or a doctor. Unfortunately we now live in a 24/7 society that takes a lot of people to keep things running. I'm sure if you did a survey of people who are required to work every Holiday and asked if they would rather work or spend time with their loved ones, I bet at least 80% would choose to be off. I don't know what has happened in your life that has hardened your heart towards your fellow man but if you don't want to thank anyone who I consider an unsung hero, its ok... I understand. Thank you for your time and May God Bless you! |
