It was nice to be able to take him down to the beach. The water has been up the wall and violent for the last 4 days.

It actually finally pushed these massive stumps that have been front of the house for years, to the next house down.

The Bay was nearly destroyed by early logging up the river. They would float the logs down the river and into the ocean. But the Bay being tricky to navigate cause many getting stuck.

Do you ever get rust on metal stuff living near the ocean?
I used to work in an Electrical shop. I know a few things that can help with electrolysis if it is a problem.

Usually exposed cables behind light switches and fans are the first to go.

Use aluminium marine multi strand cables and stainless steel fans is the way to go but expensive.

It rains in Oregon rather often. So anything left outside that is ferrous will rust if not protected by paint or something. The salt air does hasten that, yes.

As far as construction codes, all that is followed to secure against potential environmental damage.

Heya Cutbait. Long time. Hope you had a favorable Autumn.

I waited all week. I even found an interesting old jelly jar when walking earlier.

Norman. :P Roman.

Really good clamming here too. I did it once and ended up cutting my finger on their shells pretty bad. Plus, I don't think they taste good.

A lot of others enjoy them though.

It' where many of the logging boats got hung up and wrecked.

The first time I saw the breeder picture I whispered, Roman... and it stuck.

When I told my dad his name he said, No, Roman is a name for a Rottweiler or German Shepard.

You should call him, Buzzy.

lol.

He's an adventurous little guy. Loves other dogs. They call him the 'peacemaker'. He gets between them and licks their faces to settle fights.

hi

It was all kinds of unpleasant to be outside the last 4 days. The winds weren't as bad as predicted but there was certainly some 'house cracking' gusts.

Fog has been terrible in the valley of late. Last Saturday was watching cars 3 length away, disappear.

Kinda scary at 67MPH.

It's a straight drive though.

Absolutely beautiful today.

I hope for a great sunset. If notable I will take a pic.

Enjoy.

It was the warm winds that promised the storm. And while not 'damaging' as predicted, was still entertaining and chaotic.

A nice way to end the week, with sunshine and calm.

That's the old dock. What's left it. It was destroyed far before I was born. Not even sure how long it lasted after being built, due the size of the logs which float by in storms.

They use to crab off the end of it. During high tide. Now we take boats over.

He liked the water. I was surprised. We had a great 'sniff and walk'. He likes to sniff things. And I wait while he does. Until I get bored that is.

I could probably do that all day long. .... well not the sniffing exactly but rather the looking and the finding of little bayside things.

You may have heard this story of mine, but once when I was much younger my family went to Vancouver, I had a chance to do that in a similar environment as Oregon. And indeed my parents had to wait for me as I combed the tidepools. I got terrible blisters from getting sand and salt into my sandals.

And just when we were about to leave I could swear I could see an entire field of purple rocks. Then I almost stepped on a sea star. Then I realized, the 'field' was entirely coated with nothing but the sea star. One was dying (the only I could find, even among those missing limbs, that was in such a state), so I took it. It still sits in the washroom, to this day.

The ocean is on the other side of the Salishan Spit. This is an estuary.

Where fresh water and saltwater meet.

There are seastars all over the tidepools. Orange, purple, and red.

Big ones.

Yachats is a great place to see them.

Hmmm interesting indeed.... do you see many other things? Shrimp, urchins, gobies, etc.?

I've personally considered the idea of making an aquarium with temperate organisms, less colourful perhaps but still interesting creatures. Tho' as I've gotten a little older, I've come to appreciate the idea of merely going to visit and seeing everything simply interacting in nature, if perhaps less visibly, than actually putting it in a tank. Besides.... a heater for a reef tank is easily aqcuired, but a chiller is much more expensive and difficult to maintain. So I recall from mild research on the subject.

Re: Calm After the Storm...
Interesting choice of song by the way. I finally got a pair of contact lenses for the first time in six or so months. Muuuuuch better.

Been a chaotic week.

Always nice to start a Friday on an up-note.

Good to hear. Being able to see, helps define the lines more clearly.

I feel.... different.

I can understand that.

This is what is looks like right now. Or less than 10 minutes ago...

I like that picture as well.

This week has imparted on to me, some very powerful realizations.

Interesting to me as most of them are not about mannerisms to being 'loud', as I often consider. But rathermore, the value in silence. Something difficult for me to consider.

Whether I'll be able to apply what I've learned.... well I suppose I'll have to see to it.

Not so much here, no. Lots of different kinds of birds though. Eagles, Herons, Pelicans, Ducks, sea birds.

Chillers are expensive. And less available are that which require said. You would have to most likely take them from the rocks, and because so few have done it, keeping them alive would be very difficult.
