You need to know what's coming out the end of your barrel. Fill it with Slugs or Buck; Pick one, and be confident. (For Example: I'd prefer Slugs, but my 'better-half' feels more confident knowing there's room for error. So it gets filled with 00, my go-to is the AR anyway.) That is my combo right now! I put a breacher brake on my Saiga and a standard bayonet on my AK. Others would rather have a handgun in the mix so I agree with - 12GA and a 45ACP Forget a handgun, anything within range of a pistol is within range of 00 buck. Both are in range of the AR.. That's not the point.. CQB in a tight space is 'easier'/'safer' with a pistol. You pull it right up to your chest, barrel forward, elbows pressed on your sides, gun held so tight your shaking. Using your torso like a tank turret, so whatever is in front of you, is also in front of your gun. That BS you see in movies, folks waking around in Isosceles, or Weaver.. You don't do that.. You can take a gun outta' someones hands so fucking quick, you won't even know how screwed you are 'till it's over. |

A lot of states let you have pretty much anything. that Colorado shooter guy had double drum magazines which are legal there I guess. Hard to believe a lot of the stuff that is actually legal now, silencers and everything. The anti-gun crowd is actually a blessing to gun owners because they don't even understand much of the specifics so they tend to alienate everyone from the idea of any sort of regulation. |

And as far a "2 guns" with an AK you only need an AK. A wheelbarrow full of loaded mags would be nice as well. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 63516393 United States 11/19/2014 05:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Are we talking fantasy (dream gun) or reality (as in, you actually own the firearms in question, these two would be your roll-out if doom is on starting NOW). Fantasy (let's have a nice little day-dream) MA Deuce belt-fed, truck mounted. Full Auto AR-15 Reality (stuff I have now, that I would roll with if doom is on) 7.62x39 AR-15 9mm CZ-75b (tuned action) I know and trust these from much experience, plenty of mags and ammo on hand. Have a duplicate of the CZ and if it's not bending the rules too far I would carry both. Wife would roll with her 5.56 AR-15 and Springfield XD-9. Same reason, she knows and trusts them implicitly through much experience. I think the AR-10 is a capable gun but honestly I will tell you that compared to the AR-15 you will get tired lugging it around, there is a significant weight difference. I really don't expect to be engaging "looters" out past 200 yards which is where the .308 really starts to shine in comparison to intermediate cartridges like 5.56 and x39. Frankly I think .300 BLK is a GREAT cartridge for this kind of work but my .300 BLK pistol build is not complete yet and I haven't laid in a stock of ammo for it. The other calibers we bought cheap and stacked deep so no worries there. I like 12 gauge as a defensive round, I really do, but if you're talking multiple assailants ( a mob, crowd or horde) it's just too slow to keep fed, and hella heavy to lug around. Better hope your plan doesn't go sideways and you have to run for it, you're talking a lot of weight and bulk if you're talking a few hundred shotgun shells. It's just not a good choice for run-n-gun. Now, as a static defense choice against just one or two assailants, it really shines and for this reason I keep one by the bed. I hear a lot about guns in these "urban crisis" "civil unrest" threads but how about we have some discussion about more mundane topics such as boarding up streetside windows, having fire extinguishers and garden hoses in position to be deployed against vandalism. How to protect your car from tires slashed, windows broken. How many people have a garage they can actually get a car into these days? Guns are great, I'm a big believer - but how about checking the first aid kit to make sure you can bandage up a family member who got clocked with a brick on the way home and has a serious bleeding scalp laceration? You just saw on TV your local hospital is in flames... oops, no ER to stitch up your loved one. Can you manage until things calm down? BTW back on the topic of guns - if you use optics (such as a red dot or such) do the batteries still work? How long since you checked? Speaking of batteries, how's your light situation? Can't hit what you can't see, and firing off random shots in the dark is a good way to get a bystander or a neighbor plugged. Got a light on that gun? Do those batteries still work? How about a head lamp? Try holding a flashlight while you try to stuff rounds in a magazine or clear a jam. You'll quickly realize how frustrating that can be. Headlamps make a big difference, as do general area-lamps. Try reading a newspaper or a book by candle light. Sure, it can be done, but you have to be uncomfortably close to the candle and the eyestrain soon becomes unbearable. A headlamp makes a world of difference. Same for knitting (my wife's hobby) or for working on a recalcitrant generator or pouring gas into a tank. HEADLAMPS. You can thank me later for that tip. |
