Aboriginal people burn Australian flag outside G20 Brisbane
I totally get it that what happened when the British colonists arrived on the land now called Australia was a shameful and abhorrent assault on the native inhabitants. I get it that in generational terms 200 years is not that long a time. I get it that Aboriginal Australians are still living with a legacy of disadvantage from that past, and the changes that European civilization have brought to their lives. I get it that some Australians have a racist attitude towards Aboriginal people.

But to shame us and insult their own country by burning our national flag in front of the foreign media and visiting dignitaries?

That makes me mad!

Re: Aboriginal people burn Australian flag outside G20 Brisbane
Does that just go for the Australians of European descent? What about our recent immigrants from Asia, Africa, South America, The Middle East and other parts of the world?

The majority of British who were brought here when Australia was settled were brought over as convicts and treated just as badly as the Aboriginal people were. The Irish were treated particularly harshly.

Some came voluntarily it is true, but they were largely the second, third sons of wealthy landowners who were sent to the colonies to create their own wealth as the firstborn inherited in the home land.

For 200 years this has been framed as white skin versus black skin. I disagree. I believe that the oppression of the Aboriginal people was the oppression of a vulnerable people by the Elite, who oppress and exploit the vulnerable of all skin colors.

The color of a person's skin is just a distraction to divide and conquer and keep us fighting between ourselves, and not noticing who is really exploiting and oppressing who.

.... and in typical fashion thugs from both cultures were used to enforce the will of the Elite. Not only white thugs but black thugs too, the Aboriginals despite their own who were used by the ruling class as black trackers to track and hunt their own people.

Not going to get their own hands dirty if they can help it.

Re: Aboriginal people burn Australian flag outside G20 Brisbane
Virtually the whole of Australia is under native title claim, and these claims are being honoured.

So effectively, true aboriginals are being handed back their traditional land rights. They get exceptionally good deals. They get a lot handed to them, more than any other minority group in the world.

They even have their own specific land, Arnhem land, which is larger in size than most countries, where they can go and do what they want under traditional tribal laws (which would be illegal for white people to do). They don't need to pay taxes. They can hunt endangered species. They get free houses. They get free brand new SUVs if they want them. The university education scholarships and job placement programs are extraordinary: whites are discriminated against in certain high-paying govvy jobs so aboriginals can take these granted spots, often with very little need for qualifications or experience.

They get an exceptional deal if they want.

Unfortunately what this has done has bred a generational mentality of entitlement. Many believe the more they complain, the more they protest, the more they play the victim, the more they go to extremes...that the more they get so the govt doesn't feel guilty for past transgressions.

Sad thing is it works, they do get more. The social workers and courts will step in and say "look! Look how downtrodden they are that they feel they have to burn the Australian flag! Give them more money, give them another house, then they can maybe start to feel part of society and not so hard done by". That's usually how it works.

Isn't it funny how "Australians" always have an opinion when it comes to the Indigenous peoples of this country. Like they have an in-depth knowledge of the history of Colonisation and the brutal treatment of Indigenous people so the British and their convicts could occupy their lands. The massacres, poisonings, rapings etc. The paternalistic Aborigines Protection Act that suppressed and wiped out many tribes of this country. The Stolen Generation and how many of our people lost not just their families and culture but their entire identities (which equates to everything that an Indigenous person is)! The Government MADE Indigenous people dependent upon them! So the Government could control EVERY aspect of their lives! The high incarceration rates because this racist Government continues to put our people in jail for petty issues, that a non-Indigenous person would just get a slap on the wrist for. High suicide rates due to the oppression of Indigenous people and a history of abuse and racism. The continuous incidents of Deaths in Custody. An Assimilationist Policy that existed to breed them out. Incarceration and murder by power-hungry, racist police.

Bit hard to “Get over it” when it still continues today!!

How people think that "Indigenous Peoples" get everything for free, because "apparently" the Government gives them "everything!" What a joke!!

They have every right to burn the stupid flag.

What's worse is lefty do-gooder traitors, most likely immigrants, who like to pretend they have an inkling of what it means to live in a sustainable and just country. These same do gooders like to feel offended on behalf of an entire group of people in a misplaced attempt at feeling holier than thou.

These same traitors, who think it's all hunky dory to burn the Australian flag and all it represents, are the very same pigs at the trough with their hand outstretched for handouts.

Insufferable state of affairs really. If only the do gooders actually bothered to leave their cafes and airbooks for a week or two and venture out to see just how things really are and what options are open to anyone who wishes to claim part aboriginal heritage, they might be able to see that there's zero excuse to spit on the flag and Australia in general, purely because of historical misdeeds that - while extremely unfortunate and should never happen again - are just that: past; history.

Only in the minds of the ignorant, uneducated, or in the minds of the whole industry or parasites who feed off the programs and whose job it is is to keep shilling racism! We demand justice and more handouts!

With no racism, albeit perceived, then the programs instigated by the government to ensure exactly the opposite - and all the parasites in the periphery who gain from working in such programs - have no justification.

The govt is a much different one from 1950. Times have changed. Things have changed.

It's time we lived in 2000 and fucking 14, not 1960, or 1860.

Thing is the average "aussie" does not begrudge the original inhabitants of this land - apparently Rudd said "sorry" - they actually have heaps of advantages, large areas of land have been given back - all in the vain hope of "reconciliation"

So now the Australian flag is being burnt - wonderful.

And the treatment of Putin was childish to say the least.
