If you toggle between the terrain and satellite maps all of the lakes surrounding this swarm were completely dry when the satellite photo was taken. Anyone near there know if those lakes are dry now? Quoting: Resister [link to earthquake.usgs.gov] Yeah, they've always been dry. Who knows when they last were an actual lake. Here in Nevada we call them flats. Ah, thanks for the education. "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |

A big is going to be felt pretty good at this depth. Hold on to your hats! 'K when you see 0.1, 0 or 1 it's because the actual #'s haven't been calculated yet. ie., yesterday there was a 3.7 0.1 depth there later adjusted to 3.9 5depth. Check the times on the quakes if you see two same time or within seconds that is what's going on. Global incident seems to leave old info overlaid by new info dots. |

Really getting active...especially since last night. Good thing there really isn't too much up in that corner of Nevada In case a bigger one hits. A short distance from this area is Klamath Falls, which contains the Klamath Lake fault zone. This particular fault is capable of producing quakes in the 7+ range. [link to www.craterlakeinstitute.com] K Falls is over 100 miles away. This EQ area is very sparsely populated. Wild horses, wild burros and wild people are scattered throughout. It is interesting to visit. There are more hot springs in Nevada than any other state. Really seriously big ranches. |

The mountain range to the west is the Warner mountains that sit between upper alkali and goose lakes. Goose USED to be full, and bigger than tahoe before the pit river was redirected away from dumping into the lake. Felt the quakes near alturas last night as a vibration that would go for 10 secs or so. Didn't really "feel" it, but it woke me up and you could hear the house vibrate very lightly. Clicked on glp since I couldn't sleep and learned what was going on. Several months back there was a swarm of over 200 in surprise valley. We also get lots of ufo sightings for a place that has more cows than people. |

If you read the post you would know the main point was adjusted info before and after plus the times stated on the printout. If usgs also lists a 0 point after 6 hours or so then you can be more confident of what it actually is. |

Quoting: Resister [link to earthquake.usgs.gov] With significant thunderstorms they can get wet for short periods. Burning Man, about 75 miles to the SE, had a flooding problem this year and had to stop admissions for awhile. These lake beds are very flat. Think of the Bonneville Salt Flats and a car setting a land speed record. They can vary 4 inches in topography over 30 sq miles. I got my VW Beetle up to 92 mph, with the wind, on one in Oregon. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47095741 There is no fracking in those parts. This is very true, we have clean well water w/ 8+ ph. Our entire county is on a well. Hot springs abound and the CO2 in my well goes from being like club soda after a shake, to no bubbles in between shakes. Curious if anyone on here has a hot spring on their land and if they check the temp on it? |

In addition to Klamath, within close proximity to this area is Lakeview and Alturas. My main concern is if these faults are interconnected as many geologists believe. I keep a pop up camper ready to roll if we get some warning. Still curious about any local people with hot springs, anyone check their temp? |

I did not see any automatic data collection and solar powered satellite equipment at the hot springs we went to this last Spring. Unless there is a grad student or USGS tech out there its going to take awhile. |

Unless there is a grad student or USGS tech out there its going to take awhile. I've noticed how our water changes with these events, our drinking water's shift is pretty extreme. Regardless of our crappy growing season, we have many gardeners and when I garden I check the ph of the irrigation water with a blue lab pen that also shows temp. I would bet that there is a shift in temp of groundwater after these events. USGS knows something about this area- the morning after the last napa quake some usgs guy walked our road with some type of backpack with an antenna on it. they aren't talking, though- prolly just happy to be out here- though most people think they are coming for our land and water rights and are simply looking for an excuse. |
