I'll cook supper (by myself) and then have some cake (that I baked myself) while the kiddo's/hubby sing happy birthday (to me). Then I'll clean up the kitchen (by myself) and go to bed.tissue

It is the traditional vegetable used. Halloween has been around in Europe for far longer than the US of A. Pumpkins that are available now, were not available in the past.

I am British and living in CA and I seek out a large turnip every year to carve because that's what I did as a child growing up in the West Country.

Thanks to the US's commercialisation, you probably don't know what Halloween really is.

Re: HALLOWEEN TONITE!...
Greetings:

It Is Most Difficult To "Party" ... When One Has Connections/Roots ... Of The Ancient Origins ... Of The Extremely "Watered Down" Rembrances Of A Tragic Event Of Death & Destruction !!

The Roots To Which I Refer ... Are Those Of A Priest/Scientist/King ... Of The Vast Vestigates ... The Last Parts Of Aztlan ("Atlantis") ... The Capital/City/State Of Posid Or Posidius ... That Disapperaed Beneath The Waters ... Through Great Destruction ... Great Death Of It's Citizens !!

I Was/Am One ... Who With Followers Went To The Land Of Khem (Ancient Egypt) To Survive The Destruction/Innundation (Flooding/Sinking) Of Those Lands !!

Many Died Horribly ... Great Stantions ... Great Pillers Breaking Off ... Falling/Crushing People To Death !! ... Great Earthquakes ... Volcanoes Erupting Belching Smoke, Debris, Lava .. The Land Shaking Violently Up/Down ... People Screaming/Yelling ... Falling/Being Swallowed Up In Crevaces/Caverns That Opened Beneath Their Feet ... Running ... Running ... Mad ... Nowhere To Run !! ... The Water Rising ... The Land Sinking ... Death Everywhere !!

The Misuse Of The Great Crystal ... Which Set Off The Fires Beneath These Lands ... Was One Factor ... That Caused It To Sink/Be Destroyed !!

The Other Factor Was Of The Passage Of Nibiru ... That Planet Larger Then Of Jupiter ... It's Moons ... Each ... Larger Then The Earth ... On Each Passage ... The Violent Earthquakes Would Rip A Portion Of The Continent Of Azlan ... Send It To A Watery Grave !! ... The Last ... Alss The Last Was Of Posid/Posidius !!

The Distant Memories ... Distorted & Heavily Watered Down ... Were Brought To "America" Via Descendants Of Those From Aztlan ... One Branch Called Irish ... Who Of Their Lengends & Lore ... Passed Along Their Traditions ... Their Folk Festivals ... Not Knowing ... Not Understanding At All ... What These Things ... These Symbologies Meant !!

Of Your Today ... You Have The Ones Who Have "Capitalized" On These Legends & Expanded Upon Them ... Making It All Into One Gigantic Party ... & Of Course Merchants Who Saw A Termed "Good Thing" ... Capitalizing On Selling The Wares That Went Along/Togehter With ... Making The Party Happen !!

It Is Not Of The Thought ... To Forbid The Celebration Of "Halloween" ... But Rather To Pause & Reflect Upon ... Where This Actually Comes From !! ... From Those That Died Horribly On Those Lands ... Of Which "Partying" Was The Farest Thing From Their Minds !!

Of Course There Are The "Religious Zelots" ... & Others During This "Time Of Year" ... Who Toss Around Words Such As ... Pagan (Paganus: One Of The Country) & Heathen (One Of The Heath: A Rolling Track Of Land: Of The Country) ... Without Knowledge Or Meaning !!

And Of Course ... Other "Favorite Words" ... Satan/Devil ... Of Which They Have "NO CLUE WHATSOEVER" ... Of The Origins Of These Words ... What This Is Saying/Meaning ... Sigh !!! ... So Programmed & Non Thinking/Brainless !!

Perhaps To Break Out (2) Divination Sets/Decks ... And Do Some Readings During This Passage/Anniversary ... Would Be More Appropriate ... Then Pigging Out On Candy/Confectionaries !!

Farewell For Now !!

When I grew up, we practiced for weeks before Halloween getting our jokes, stories, and songs together. Back in the day, you couldn't just hold your hand out and have people give you candy. You had to do something for it...and you better say "Thank You" on your way out.

So I use Halloween as a teaching opportunity for the kids to bring a little old school back into the world.

When they run up to the house, stick their hands out and yell, "Tick-or Treat," I say ok, what are you going to do for the treat? You have to work your treats just like I have to work to be able to buy the treats for you.

Most of the kids in my neighborhood are used to my Halloween Tricks so they come prepared for the challenge. Besides, I give out the best loot in the neighborhood and they want to work for it.

Their choices are, sing a song, tell a joke or answer Texas State Trivia. Most of them go for the trivia challenge.

Anyway, no one goes away empty handed but most of them go away with more knowledge than when they walked up to my door.

Knowledge is the greatest gift you can give!

Happy Halloween to everyone.

In my hood, folks from another part of town roll in and park along the curb and bring their kids for candy. But the adults come to the door with the kids and want candy in their bags also. I get a big bag or charcoal and drop a black chunk in those bags cuz I'm an @sshole. I know I am cuz I hear em say "that @sshole" when they look in the bag as they walk away. The sign on my door says "look here" with an arrow pointed at my front door cam so they don't do nuthin in retribution. And they don't wear a costume or mask. They're also are captured on the other cams that keep an eye around my crib.

I do not dislike the holidays.

I am in fact pagan.

My mother an I were discussing this morning how the commercialism of the holidays have actually stolen them from the children.

To us it seems sad.

I am 48 and I hate seeing Christmas decorations being sold in the stores in September.

It dose not seem as special anymore as when you had to wait for them to be put on the shelfs.

But now it seems like the shit is being shoved in your face months before the actual holiday.

It takes all the fun and anticipation out of it.

I don't find it offensive (I'm British) But I laugh at Americans who *call* themselves Pagan because they think it adds mystery.

I hate that you can't have a lit lantern of any kind here without it being an advertisement for the little bastards to come knocking.

But I just carved my turnip for tonight and put it in the window. I'm 48 and that's what we did in the west country. I shall just have to risk the bad spirits and close the curtains later.
