That would be very handy - and you're absolutely right, Earth's orbit is littered with debris. They could use something like this to either push it away from orbit or pull it back to burn up in the atmosphere. This technology really does have so many applications.

A big chunk of the Meteorite (Chelyabinsk) did land in the lake but much got scattered over the City and Injured over 1200 People, and some seriously and that was a small to moderate meteorite that came through atmosphere. Just imagine a moderate to big one..

I would believe anything nowadays with USA directing that Meteorite to Russia, except they should of aimed it towards Moscow and other high Government officials that work for Putin and the Communist Government

Could be, it could very well be. Just because we haven't invented such a technology, certainly doesn't mean that it doesn't exist somewhere else in the universe; or indeed that it doesn't exist at some other time...

I don't know very much about this incident. I would like to think that this technology (if it has been used before) would be used for good such that it could deflect a meteor from heading towards Earth. That would be another very useful application indeed. Perhaps, this incident was caused by such an event and a small piece came to Earth as a result of a much larger and successful deflection event.

Who knows.

If they can repel pollutants, where do they go? Don't they just move and get concentrated elsewhere? And how do they legislate that? I mean, I don't want your state's pollutants. So no moving it over here, thank you very much.

guess what, even the the force is small over a period of 100 years (maybe less) this could be used to move small asteroids into a colision course with earth

for that matter, if they have this in the lab , it's likely classified realm has a versin 100 times stronger

Is anyone else annoyed that the Guardian article features a picture of the Millennium Falcon with a stupid caption to explain their choice and not one of the ten thousand scenes in Star Trek where tractor beams are being used?

It is still in its infancy, since they can only move very small particles a few centimeters.
