A little inside baseball on DHS:

First, they really don't have much pull with DoJ when it comes to enforcement - they're at the bottom of the totem pole. Conviction statistics = money with appropriations committees, and who do you think is going to get priority in funding trials / convictions / pleas? DoJ, not DHS. DoJ: "Get out of our rice bowl, you blue-gloved DHS f*ers."

Secondly, there's a great deal of turnover and upheaval going on at DHS. People wondering if their back will be covered if they take action on an issue. Not a healthy work environment.

Add to that a slew of whistle-blowers - and you have a perfect bureaucratic storm of distrust, powerlessness, and apathy.

I'd want them no other way.

I agree, most of our soldiers and cops are good, except I would say 75 % very good ones, and 25 % bad. here too I am speaking from pers. experience with them.

First of all, just to preface, if shit were ever to hit the proverbial fan, then going by history of what has transpired in other countries, the military and law enforcement will fragment. Each person will have to choose a side. Military and law enforcement have families too. It will be a choice to be made. Just take a look at what's happened in Syria as an example - with some standing by Assad and others not. This is human nature.

While we have all heard about the purging of high ranking officers in the news, there has also been purging in the mid-rank officers. I once met a guy who, after carrying a laminated copy of the constitution in his wallet and bestowing those values on his men, was asked to stop by his higher ups. In the end, it was suggested by those above that maybe the service wasn't the place for him anymore.

Bottom line. People are people, and choices will have to be made...

There have always been these folks at bridges and tunnels, off and on since nine eleven. And at train stations and subway stations and airports. This is why so many people freaked out when someone or someones were able to change the flags on the Brooklyn bridge.

There are many many bridges and tunnels out of the city. The Triborough is within the city, not even an exit.

Maybe they're looking for a particular suspect? But then why army not cops.
