Exactly. I nearly mentioned that as well. Which I played. And WAS weird.

Never removed our fingers though.

Religion leads to an inherent scape-goatism. Is that a word? Is now.

Pointing the finger away from Self, IOWs.

To escape the idea that they are enough on their own without some sort of validation from an authority?

I guess that is sort of like fear of success.

More like their own sins are perpetrated upon them by say "Satan' instead of understanding that we all choose for ourselves the choices we make. And which way we move. And how we impact ourselves and our environment.

Religion is also a means to an end. If properly conditioned, religious people will be begging for death.

Which, is what we have now.

Oh ok. Thanks. That's an aspect of the NT thinking I have trouble with. Instead of taking personal responsibility for whatever it they feel guilty about it was the devil and a third party authority will validate this notion and forgive them. Which allows them to write off their past emotionally, indebting them to the deity that performed this service for them.

And the cries for death are just them trying to escape the reality that they never actually forgave themselves or took responsibility for their "sins"

Right?

I think that is a good way to look at it. Like the sale of Indulgences for example.

Partially. Many are just miserable. And looking for an 'out' with a promise of paradise.

I think sinning against another can only be really reconciled by ask for forgiveness by the one wronged. To make amends or to pay restitution.

The, I'll just confess on my 'deathbed' being a further show of the 'scape-goating' that occurs. Sin and be forgiven!

Does that lessen or change the ripple that was created by the sinful action in the first place?

No it does not.
