Many ppl want that kind of relationship with their higher self. And how we impact ourselves and our environment. Religion is also a means to an end. If properly conditioned, religious people will be begging for death. Which, is what we have now. Instead of taking personal responsibility for whatever it they feel guilty about it was the devil and a third party authority will validate this notion and forgive them. Which allows them to write off their past emotionally, indebting them to the deity that performed this service for them. And the cries for death are just them trying to escape the reality that they never actually forgave themselves or took responsibility for their "sins" Right?
