The question is how prevalent is it in today's world and do ppl in positions of power really do it as a form of religion believing it empowers them.

Or do they use it to form a bond with new initiations?

Bond, black mail, guilt leverage, desensitization....
There is numerous reasons they could do it. You pretty much own a MF'er if you manipulate them into going cannibal. That being the main one imo.

Of course this all speculation but given where we are discussing it makes sense to ponder it. Someone will inevitably propose the inverse and say it is a ghost story to scare ppl off and work as a kind of hazing.

Thanks!
That was my point. Religion is a tool. Used on all levels. The people that use it as a tool obviously know what it is and therefor dont believe in it as a religion but do believe (know) it empoweres them.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I call it necessary dogma (or anecdotal dogma if you prefer). It doesn't even matter what the symbolic act is, only that is gives one belief in themselves to accomplish their desires.

How many ppl went through some cheesy ritual in their bedrooms as a teenager selling their soul to Satan and all it did is give them confidence in something outside themselves to validate their feelings of worthiness? It was just necessary dogma to trick themselves into believing they had a source of power outside themselves because they didn't believe they were good enough on their own.

Or am I getting too real?
