Melissa Frein: Eric's Sister-In Law; was Eric defending his brother, from his wife having an affair with the trooper Eric killed?

I started wondering why Eric would kill a cop; and no others, even though he could be wiping them out with a .308 and explosives.
.
It doesn't make sense that he is just a cop hater to me; so, I began a search, and found the Pennsylvania State Troopers denying the dead cop had an affair with Eric's, brother's, wife.

I wonder how many man hours they spent investigating the trooper, between all the guys attending the funeral, and the ones looking for Eric?

I have a feeling that Eric knows something (from hours of hiding in bushes), that the Troopers are in denial about; and Eric is willing to die for.
