Anonymous Coward User ID: 63901841 Moldova 10/11/2014 02:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My oldest daughter is an RN. She recently said to hell with it and quit. I am SO thankful she did. My youngest just started as a nurse in a Pediatricians office in the backwoods of Virginia, I will get her out of there as soon as I can. Wish I could move my whole family here. No welfare so no immigrants and you can go months and not see a black face. Its like America in the '50's. People are respectful, dress nice even if they are dirt poor, I can walk alone anywhere in a city of 800,000 any time of the night or day with zero fear for my safety. Did I mention there are no blacks? Wonder if there is a correlation? |

I was just wondering what you meant by 10 years behind -- in medicine--social mores, etc. It's not like it's a slap in the face as I don't care, just really wanted to know what you were referring to. |

User ID: 28167778 United States 10/11/2014 03:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Recent quitting (within a month) with more going out the door everyday. South Georgia Big corporations are monopolizing the hospitals by buying them all up so they can set and control prices. They're doing everything they can on the sly to get domestic nurses and doctors to quit so they can replace them with cheap foreign health care workers. Obama care is going to make healthcare the most profitable industry in the world and so it is monopolized by the big boys. Expect less and worse care for more administered by people you can barely understand. very perceptive thoughts. You are probably right. Exactly right. I have been wondering if trends like what you describe will give rise to small, secret, private places you can go and be cared for by formerly employed nurses and doctors. underground hospitals, basically. in some form or another, I can see this happening. Like the original hostels for the sick, on which the modern hospital is based. Liberalism is totalitarianism with a human face – Thomas Sowell |

Quoting: SolitaryWildFlower It's extremely short staffed everywhere, in every level of care. So, two nurses are working today who are vomiting and sick but were told to come in. Great. What would you say is the cause of the people quitting? And of the nurses vomiting? EBOLA and EBOLA Kidding, obviously. Somewhat. General unhappiness at work, mostly. But some are fear based. Most likely, a stomach virus but I'm not excluding anything. North GA here- not hearing of a stomach bug yet, but everyone seems to have had the 2-3 day thing that starts out with a sore throat, then it's a dry cough, feel achy, before you think you are really sick, it is getting better. Is that going around down your way? |

You can't keep a hospital going without nursing staff and they are already at skeleton staffing in most places. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 61037425 Everyone working in hospitals, EVERYONE, should wear a mask, clean scrubs that are removed as soon as they get home if not right before they leave work, gloves, etc, all day long. Shower at the hospital if there is facilities for that, and put the dirty clothes in a plastic bag before you bring them home, then immediately into the laundry. And there should be NO VISITORS allowed in hospitals of any kind, especially those dirty goober types who stand around in their filthy clothes looking confused and touching everything while gramma is dying from her stroke (you know who you are, you haven't one iota of medical education); only visitors allowed should be the parents of hospitalized children. Oh, and doctors haven't a clue; most know only what they were 'taught' (actually cribbed for on exams, if they didn't outright cheat to get through med school) and their knowledge of alternative medicines is generally something on the order of a kneejerk response that 'you're a conspiracy theorist'; they don't even read their own literature. Notice how many dentists are still shilling for fluoride even though Harvard came out with a study that it reduces IQ... There's a whole army of foreign doctors and nurses being trained as we speak in the Phillipines, India, and the Middle East to replace you all once they run you out. One by one they are replacing every industry with decent pay with less demanding cheaper labor. They already destroyed my trade and many others now they have yours in their sights. You laughed and thought us construction workers made too much money and deserved to be replaced by Mexicans and now it is your turn to be replaced. As for all the police and government workers lol, you are going to be replaced last so keep on laughing at the rest of us while you still can. How can these nurses be doing the hard work they do and vomiting? Do they do some work and then put their hands over their mouths and run to the bathroom or just puke wherever they are standing at that moment? Any hospital that forces staff to come to work in this condition could easily be sued from multiple sources, patients, the nurses, visitors, doctors, janitors, clerks etc. if others get sick. This is the epitome of stupidity. |

You'll notice I said 'water it down' first; Betadine is used in eye surgery and as a prep for surgery all the time; it's harmless; it may sting if you don't water it down but it will work either way and kills every germ it touches. I used this technique while working in a hospital, first as a histology technician handling surgical and autopsy specimens and assisting in autopsies (where by definition, you don't know what people died of yet) and I never got sick in 30 years... also afterwards when I was working on the floors with ill people of all types, and when my kids were little and brought home colds. It works but if you don't want the advice, fine, don't take it. At least I don't call people with helpful information 'shills'. |

These nurses are in a critical care area, as well. Post op's and other comprimised patients are in these units. Not to mention, the families of the patients! Plus, the other staff.
