Is the Costco in the US this lax?

I had a friend who returned a TV after two years.

But this one takes the cake. It's an uncle story I admit. But my uncle snapped a picture of the guy and said that Costco actually accepted the BBQ back.

Come one, you gotta finish the story... or at least elaborate.

Was it like a 5 gallon bucket of sauce? Is that how he still had it after 10 years?

How much was left? Inquiring minds want to know...
 Quoting: R. Wordsworth

wouldn't it be a fiery thing that cooks meat?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 63817127

Correct.

A BBQ.

Not BBQ sauce.

Although they would probably take the sauce back too, even if it was half eaten.

I could post the picture of the BBQ being returned but it seems rather pointless... y'all get the idea, right?

Then again why not.

hmmmm....well you thread title says "use"

I'm guessing it was not ten years old new in the box eh?

chuckle I return used stuff all the time. I like the expression on customer service's face when they know it's used but they can't deny my return. They judge me like it's their father's store.
When you find a piece of shit along side the road and you poke it with a stick, what do you expect to find inside of it, gold?
No, it's just going to stink more.

Re: Dude returns BBQ to Costco after 10 years of use
Back in the 90's a friend of mine worked for the Disney store in a PA mall. When she first went to work there they had the singularly most liberal return policy I had ever heard. "Any item will receive a full refund at any time without a receipt" (We are the friendliest place on earth)

This resulted in people bringing back worn children's clothes - reason for return no longer fit. Stuffed animals that had been eaten by animals. Used items, broken items, items suffering from normal wear and tear.

Within a few months the policy was changed to exchange without receipt; why you ask. People would walk into the store with an empty bag and fill it with new items and return them for cash. Or go to a Disney outlet store and return items bought there.

As Disney saw the fraud the general public was committing they tightened and tightened the policy and buy the time she left they were calling the police on people who tried to pass off stolen merchandise for refunds.

I can see Costco going the extra miles for their 'Members' over the past 10 years this guy spent over $550 on membership alone.

Yeah, I ordered some boots from Zappos last year and when they arrived, it was painfully obvious they've been worn for at least several years because the soles and heels were worn down by 50%. Some jagoff wore then around for a couple of years then returned them for a full refund. Then they turn around and re-sell the damn things.

And that's hilarious about the Disney store.

I've met people that do that with Walmart for a cheap vacation. Fly to Hawaii - get off plane and go to Wally World and pick up camping gear - have fun for a few weeks - return all camping gear before the end of 30 days and get money back - get on plane and return home

Yeah unless you happen to be the customer that buys this used crap that people return and has been put back out for sale.Saw a story about women and men that make it a thing to go buy their expensive suits and party gowns then wear them to the event and return it after using it.They have a way to remove the price tag with the plastic attachment then thread it back through the seam or the fabric and it looks like new.Always check the arm pits for odor before buying anything even if it expensive. One lady even did it with underwear.
Most store will just take stuff back if the tags ares still attached and it looks new.

Back when the department stores didnt have a scanner for the items people would go to the clearance sales and buy lots of stuff then come home and peal that little price sticker off and take it to a different store and get the full price shown on the sticker.Knew a lady that did that and would take enough back to pay for her kids school clothes every year.

Yeah, I worked at Sears. People would want a replacement for their Refrigerator after 10 years and would appalled when we said no.

My saying that caugh on was: The only thing that is still Young after 15 years is a kid.

Re: Dude returns BBQ to Costco after 10 years of use
This makes me lose much faith in humanity.

Reminds me of a woman who tried to return a two year old pair of sandals with a broken strap. She had no receipt and wanted to exchange them. We were willing to exchange, but without a receipt we could only give her a credit for whatever they were currently worth. Because they were two years old on clearance, they were only worth $20. That's twenty freaking dollars that we're willing to give her for two year old used sandals. She had a fit, saying that wasn't "acceptable" because she paid $50 for them.

So basically, she just wanted to get on the "shoes for life" program, where she wears something for two years and then exchanges it for something brand new. She left pretty mad. Oh well. Pay for your shoes like everyone else.

well, older people are smart... they pay attention and compare warranty before they purchase.

sometimes a bbq that cost 100.00 USD and comes with a one year warranty ends up being more expensive than the bbq grill that costs 200.00 USD and comes with a 15 year warranty...

now if that 200.00 BBQ grill breaks after 10 years, are you smart enough to take it back?
