I was 11 or 12 when my older sister noticed this happening with me (SLIder). It was at some point during Summer vacation from school and I was made/expected to test/show it to probably every child(or anyone walking by:-) in the neighborhood, if I remember correctly.

It's on and off since then but I experience other phenomena with electronics. I hear my Grandmother did too.



So, while it's not "as long as I can remember", it's definitely not "fairly new" so I voted the first Yes.
