Do you experience Experience Phenomena with Electronic Devices? Are you a SLIder?
POLL: Do you experience Experience Phenomena with Electronic Devices? Are you a SLIder?
Yes, for as long as I can remember.
Yes, it's a fairly new phenomena.
 No.

Here's some information for those of us that have never heard of such things :-0,

"Known as street lamp Interference (SLI), experiences of this nature are common, with people in many different parts of the world claiming “that they involuntarily, and usually spontaneously, cause street lamps to go out. Generally the effect is intermittent, infrequent and without an immediately discernable sequence of cause and effect.”

These are the words of the British paranormal scholar Hilary Evans, who, prior to his death in 2011, was the foremost authority on SLI. (“SLIder” is the term he coined to refer to someone who reports a SLI experience.) In addition to being a pictorial archivist and author of numerous books on the Fortean, he helped found, in 1981, the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (ASSAP). After receiving numerous reports from people claiming that street lamps respond to their presence in an inexplicable fashion, Evans decided to take on the mystery, collecting hundreds of accounts of SLI through his Street Lamp Interference Data Exchange (SLIDE). The culmination of this research – what turned out to be his final book – is the brief yet highly impressive SLIDERS: The Enigma of Street Light Interference (2010). “SLI… can reasonably be regarded as a phenomenon in its own right,” he argued.

There is clearly a connection between sex and SLI. This connection deepens when examined in light of William G. Roll’s recurrent spontaneous psychokinesis (RSPK) interpretation of poltergeist disturbances. According to the RSPK model, these amazing demonstrations of mind-over-matter – of objects flying around houses and electrical equipment going haywire – occur as a result of sexual and emotional tension on the part of the “focus,” who more often than not is a troubled teenager undergoing puberty. Are the mechanisms at work in poltergeist disturbances the same as those involved in SLI?

Whereas some SLIders say they affect only street lamps, other say their ability extends to a whole range of electrical devices, from battery-operated wrist watches to railroad crossings to aircraft navigation equipment. Diana B, an office worker from Texas, USA, belongs to the latter category. Not only do street lamps dim and go out when she approaches them at night, sometimes they also turn on when she approaches them during the day. Regular light bulbs and fluorescent lights also behave oddly in her presence, such as when she goes to a restaurant or enters the home of a friend. There have been occasions, too, when automatic garage doors have suddenly gone haywire on her, opening and closing quickly “in a crazy way.”

Re: Do you experience Experience Phenomena with Electronic Devices? Are you a SLIder?
I was 11 or 12 when my older sister noticed this happening with me (SLIder). It was at some point during Summer vacation from school and I was made/expected to test/show it to probably every child(or anyone walking by:-) in the neighborhood, if I remember correctly.

It's on and off since then but I experience other phenomena with electronics. I hear my Grandmother did too.

hf

So, while it's not "as long as I can remember", it's definitely not "fairly new" so I voted the first Yes.

hf

*Edit, the "first" will be the most popular. I voted, "as long as I can remember".

Re: Do you experience Experience Phenomena with Electronic Devices? Are you a SLIder?
I am hoping more people can comment on this thread. This is of particular interest to me. I have found that the street light phenomenon has been with me all of my life. But I have ANOTHER "thing" as well--and yes, it could be just coincidence, but hopefully this thread will bring out others to corroborate my "thing"....

But I think I cause people to trip. I mean physically stumble or trip or drop things or bump into things. It happens ALL the time. I am not doing ANYTHING physical in any fashion to affect the environment of people around me--but they seem to have brief moments of being LAME near me. Either it's ME, or I'm just hyper noticing things--like, if you want to buy a certain car, all of a sudden, EVERYONE HAS THAT CAR ON THE ROADWAYS! LOL!! Right?

Anyway--just curious....

Oh sheesh! Do you do rechargeables? Mine don't hold charges very long(when Not in use - Useless in an Emergency to have them 'fully' charged) and I've never considered it could be another weird effect. I wonder...

hmm

"general mayhem" - (:-)

It's caused by being dehydrated. My doc knows all about this and tests for it. Get a good electrolyte solution like E-lyte and add it to your water daily. That will stop the phenomenon.

Oh that is different. I'd say Not Coincidental, it's not usual to see people tripping all over the place.:-0 I think that's why it's usually funny, when it really isn't....I'm curious if this has made you immune to the funniness?

I know what you mean about the car thing(!). I was applying it to something else the other day, too. If I remember what it was, I'll post it.

Re: Do you experience Experience Phenomena with Electronic Devices? Are you a SLIder?
Whenever I drive by or walk by a street lamp, it goes out. Sometimes turns on. It has happened so frequently that there's no chance that it goes out "coincidentally." So I googled it one day and found others had the same thing happen.

It happens also with some other stationary lights. It's perplexing because no one can give an empirical reason why.

It sucks. I do the street lamp thing. Electronics in general that I use a lot don't last very long without constant upkeep.
If I'm watching tv and I sneeze the picture usually breaks into pixels for a second. There is some cool things about it I guess but radios or anything with an antenna I jack up without meaning to.
