Been on my mind for a while now. What would life be like, if it came with a 'fast forward' button? Quoting: Seer777 Would it be abused? What if there was only a finite number of times to utilize said button? Just my pondering for the day. Say for example that after the age of 18, one aquires the ff button. One is alloted a timescale of 1 years time to ff through, over a person's general lifetime. Periods of 1hr, 8hrs 12hrs, and 24hrs can be sped through at will, with a 24hr cooldown time between uses. What would be the most commonly sped through situations? Who would use their allotted year, fastest? Slowest? What would be common triggers? Traffic? Work? Sitting in a doctors office? Time with the in-laws? My point being when does being forced to 'live in the moment' become less appealing than speeding through it at the press of a button and at the cost of potentially losing, an entire year of your life? Would it have the opposite effect instead and cause people to become much more aware of their time and how they spend it? Therefore, less likely to waste it. I posed these questions to a friend of mine and Market today. The first thing she said was, 'Child birth'... I wondered after, how well she had thought through that. As the available time(s) is set at 1/8/12/24hrs. Nothing in between and you can only choose once per 24hrs. Say you were in jail for 6 months. Would you use half the time or '3 months' to speed through seeing only every other day? Difficulties strengthen the Mind as labor does the body... ~Seneca |

As I too am a fan. :) Saw him play at the Gorge at George Washington in 1995. Best 'moments' of my life, up to that point. I knew because I felt if I could relive just that moment for 'all time' I would be perfectly content. It has been rather forefront on my mind since. Time flies when having fun [link to berkeleysciencereview.com] True. One fascinating wrinkle to the experiment was that this difference in rating only occurred when the timer counted up, but not when the timer counted down. Nelson accounts for this finding by pointing out that if the timer counts down to reach zero as the song ends, our brain expects this result, no matter how much time has actually elapsed. And when expectations are met, no subconscious explanation is necessary, because in his words, “Our minds are incredibly lazy. If they don’t have to think hard, they won’t.” But when the manipulated timer counts up, the song seems to end unexpectedly early (or late), resulting in a sense of surprise at the unexpected duration. Our brains then subconsciously grasp for an explanation to account for the disparity between expectation and result. The study suggests that the explanation that made itself available to the subconscious minds of the test subjects is that “time flies when you’re having fun,” leading people to rank their experiences in accordance to the time distortion they felt. Actual panic would occur before you ever have a chance to post here. I am here for reality. News here breaks hours or at least many minutes before sheep know. 70% is crap but that is why you have a brain to do that critical thinking.
