Thread this morning about an explosion in Centerville, La.

There was a thread this morning about an explosion at a chemical plant in Centerville, Louisiana.. I guess it's been deleted since it was determined to be just a hoax. Anyway, I bring it up again because I live in this parish and I just saw an article online

St. Mary Parish residents are getting phone calls and text message alerts instructing them to seek shelter due to a toxic fume warning from Columbia Chemicals near Centerville, but parish officials say there is no indication yet that the threat of toxic fumes is real.

Duval Arthur, St. Mary Parish director of homeland security and emergency preparedness, said his office is looking into the warnings. He said no chemical releases have been reported to his office.

The text messages and phone calls might be a hoax, he said.


Granted this is from this morning right around the time the thread was posted, but I did not realize the lengths that were taken to make this hoax seem legitimate. I guess I'm just curious as to why they would try so hard.. text messages and phone calls? Centerville is such an irrelevant "town" here, it's maybe a mile long and a mile wide.. if that, they don't even have a zip code. I just can't understand all the effort that was put into this, unless it's just some teenager who was bored and decided to mess with everyone.. it just makes me wonder if our parish is being targeted for something.. anyone have any thoughts on this? Am I thinking too much into it?
