Have you tried "No Poo'? | |

Quoting: CowgirlK I know it sounds really crazy to not shampoo your hair with traditional products (shampoo and conditioner) but it really works. I didn't want to post anything until I tried it myself but I have been "Poo" free for 2 months now and I can say going poo free might have been one of the best decision I have ever made in my life. Let me preface this story with I have long hair. Really LONG hair, past my butt which I keep tied up in a sexy bun. I've spent lots of money on shampoo and conditioner in my life. I use 1/3 a bottle of conditioner ever time I wash my hair just to get the knots out. But not any more. Now I pour baking soda into a cup that I mix with water and create a slurry which I pour onto my roots. I scrub my hair as if I had shampoo in my hair...scrub, scrub, and rinse. It feels very weird but it works. My hair ends up squeaky clean. Then I mix apple cider vinegar with water, pour it over my hair, comb through and rinse. After my personal experiment I can say my hair has never felt so clean and soft in my life. And I'm not using any chemicals that are harming my body. My hair is healthier and more beautiful than ever. Has anyone else gone poo free? Lets Hear your story.... I've definitely thought about it! Shampoo is very drying:(. I'm tired tonight, so I just might try your baking soda in the morning to save time. |

I've gone with no conditioner for a while, but I've always used shampoo. I might give it a try. Quoting: Lisa*Lisa OMG..If you have never used cider vinegar to "condition" your hair please give it a try. Believe me, you will be amazed. I use to dread washing my long hair because combing the knots out was such a long painful process. Now I fill a big gulp cup with about a cup of cider vinegar and water. I stick my hair in the cup for a couple of minutes, pour the rest over my head, then rinse. All of the tangles are gone and my hair is sooooo soft. I told my 85 year old mother about my new "no poo" thing and she said, "Back in my day vinegar is what we use to rinse our hair with." My mother said, they washed their hair with lye soap which her mother made and rinsed with vinegar. I asked my mother why she waited 50 years to tell me how amazing vinegar was for a hair rinse and why she didn't rinse our hair with it when we were children. Mom said, "Well after you kids were born I had money and wanted to buy things that smelled good. Really Mom??? I guess marketing worked on her. But the old ways are the best ways from what I can surmise. |

Does it fizz when you rinse with vinegar? And is it apple cider vinegar? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27466742 Seems like you be shocking your hair's pH quite a bit. (I never use shampoo or soap on my head) Make a slurry with the baking soda. Pour it on your roots no matter how long your hair is. Scrub your scalp and rinse well. Then make the vinegar and water rinse. Pour that over your hair and rinse again..\ Your head wont turn into a volcano experiment like you did in elementary school unless you don't rinse it all out. Just scrub your head and rinse. But, I am a woman with hair down to by ass who has spent thousands of dollars over my life time on hair care products. Who knew that baking soda and cider vinegar did a better job at cleaning and conditioning my hair than all those expensive products. |

Micah, my 170lb Leonberger dog smelled like crap most of the time and I couldn't take it any more which is what began my research into alternative shampoo methods. He is always in the pool, I cant keep him out of the water so he is never dry, hates to be brushed, and there is not a groomer in the DFW area who would go near him for less than 200 bucks. The baking soda and vinegar worked on him so I figured I would try it on my hair too. It worked for both of us. :micah on a raft: |
