Volcano going off in Hawaii...

Yesterday the flow advanced 50 yards... probably because it was filling deep cracks...

Since yesterday the flow moved another 200 yards.
.
Still no evacuations ordered.

Yesterday in our local paper there was a front page article talking about what will happen if the lava crosses the highway.

Thanks for your prayers; I have a lot of friends who live downflow from the volcano; and I don't want them to lose their homes, and/or need to leave Hawaii.

The volcano flowed approximatly another 300 yards since yesterday...

It amazes me to realize that so much of our ground is hollow, that cracks, caves, and/or lava tubes can take days to fill.

And I could see the flow burning the forest behind my house on my way home... it was a few miles south east of my house.

The last time I saw it, it was in the south west, and was much further away.

The albezias that broke up and flew around in the storm that just tore up Puna, destroying some houses, and shutting down a bunch of roads... they burn! You can break a branch off, and light it a few minutes later... I think if the flow gets to the albizia trees, their canopy's will burn 100 feet off of the ground, and fall onto neighbor's houses, and into other albizias...

Where I live, and where the flow is now, there has been lots of rain; but where the flow is going, and most of the island is having a drought, and we've also been hearing messages from Smokey the Bear about wildfires.

Since yesterday the flow turned north east; and moved 150 yards; and they say it can cross highway 130 near the Pahoa Marketplace in less than two weeks.

Road construction has begun on Beach and Railroad Avenue in Hawaiian Beaches and Paradise park... if it crosses Railroad, that'll pretty much shut down Puna... they only have about 21 blocks left till the flow hits the ocean.

The flow is .2 of a mile from Kaohe Homestead; today members of the Civil Defense are going to houses in Kaohe Homestead on foot, to tell people if they should be ready to move.
.
People near the flow (not me, I live upwind) are advised by the Depatment of Health, and the American Lung Association to keep their windows and doors shut, to run their air conditioners on recycle, and to do the same if they drive through smoke.
.
If anybody feels uncomfortable they should leave, and/or seek medical attention.

The Civil Defense is still in Kaohe Homestead; they're working straight through the weekend to build a new road.

The only vegetation burning is in direct contact with the flow... the same American Lung Association warning was announced again today.

The flow moved 250 yards since yesterday; it's about 1/10 of a mile from Kaohe Homestead.

They are still working on opening two alternate roads in case the flow makes it to Highway 130; people in the Pahoa Marketplace think they are in the path... that's the north end of Pahoa; all traffic from Pahoa to Kalapana and Kapoho will need to use the new roads they're building if that happens...

A traffic map of 130 between Pahoa and Kea'au will show you, that is one of the most dangerous sections of highway on the island.... commuters doing 80 mph in a 45 mph zone, with others pulling out from stop signs... thank God I don't live in the neighborhoods the new highways are going into!

The State Park it's flowing in is closed; anybody caught in it will be prosecuted.... at the rate it's flowing, pretty soon you won't need to be in the park to see it anyway.

You can donate boxes to UPS, and a storage center in Kona; they will deliver them for free... so many thousands of people are packing, boxes are becoming hard to find.

There is another break off flow going north, that has grown about 35 yards since yesterday.

Some businesses are closing. People are moving, and stores are emptying.

9 million dollars is going to move a school from Pahoa to the north side of the flow; and two new roads are still being built up for traffic.

The new roads are going into the hardest hit parts of hurricane/tropical storm we just had.

I recently heard that when streets were shut down by falling trees, and power lines were dead, neighbors were raiding eachother from door to door.

I guess that's why the news was talking about 20 years for a burglary, during the "state of emergency" we are under right now.

That would cut off traffic between Pahoa and Keaau.... so now they're planning on opening Chain of Craters Road, uphill from the flow... the volcano already covered Chain of Craters Road.

When I moved here there were three traffic lights going around the island; and there was less traffic going around the island in a day, than you see in the Wal Mart parking lot today.

Now the bumper to bumper traffic between Pahoa and Hilo, will come around by the volcano, and come down the mountain, which also has bumper to bumper traffic... were gonna need a wider highway...

Ironically the guy who made the highway 4 lanes wide in Hilo... was fired; because he was told, "This island will never need a four lane highway!"

But, the flow seems to have stopped going east, and has a breakout flow that moved 100 yards north.
