Re: What makes you righteous?
The gift of grace and mercy. My God grants me these as a free gift if I take up the burden and walk with Him. I alone am worthy of nothing.
 Quoting: ByFaithAlone

Nothing is for free my friend...ask the Holy Spirit and it will be revealed to you.

Luke 13:24 “The door to the Kingdom is narrow, work hard to get in.

There are many contradictions in the bible but only one truth and that is formed into 1 truth.... the two most important commandments "love your neighbor" and "love your God"

Acts 14:22 “Continue in faith you can only enter the Kingdom of God through many tribulations.”
Luke 9:23 “If you want to be my follower, shoulder your cross daily.”
1Peter 7 “Faith will be tested by trails, faith will be tested by fire and purified as gold.”

:All God asked:

I understand what you are saying. That is partly why I put if I take up the cross and walk with Him. What I am saying is there is nothing that I could ever do that would make me worthy of those things. What could I ever do to be good enough to receive that grace or that mercy? Nothing because without Him I would know nothing and it all would fall in vain without love, without those gifts. Many are called but few are chosen.

Never sell yourself short...for true meekness is a balance between strength and humility. He will not dwell in any haughty or proud heart, for you are chosen through the love=light from within.

1 Corinthians 13
If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing.

If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

You are a beautiful and kind heart :) Just rambling thoughts but I wonder sometimes if we were not chosen before our flesh took form. The whole written in the Book of Life thing. That every moment and every step we have taken is this life leads us back from which we have come. To Home again. Perhaps we have already signed our names into it. He knows those hearts that love Him even in sacrifice. He knows His warriors as well I think. Everything fashioned with creative and living and loving hands so we will know it was all worth it in the end.

:)We are prodigal sons on a very long road back to God. As the Kingdom of God forms within us ...as we drive out the darkness, light comes in and through this light the Holy Spirit fills us with deeper knowledge into the secrets of God's Kingdom. As Jesus said make God's Kingdom your main goal and all other things will be added unto you.

With other words everything will be made clear to you. The "wonder" will turn into a knowing as if this knowledge is written into you being. You will understand all with a awe and wonder into God's amazing love.

Re: What makes you righteous?
.
This is a question for anybody... I am really curious to hear from everybody of any religious background.
.
I understand many religions have sacrifices and offering to their God, gods, and/or goddeses...
.
What do you offer, to obtain righteousness, and/or forgivness of sins?
.
 Quoting: anonymous 007

You are asking about the sacrifices of righteousness?

I think of it as fidelity to truth and reality.

It is hard not to suffer from illusions and delusions.

Our impressions need to be tested, but when we find we have been wrong or mistaken about something, we need to be able to make immediate corrections.

But people cling to their errors, not wanting to correct them, or fearing to face the consequences of correcting them, like paying debts, going to prison, or whatever. People fear even a loss of status in admitting they were wrong. They fear the anger of people they have misled.

The sacrifices of righteousness are adhering to the truth as you discover it and letting go of delusions, and suffering all due consequences.

They look like hard sacrifices to make, but they are enlightening, and they lift your burden of fear and guilt. You will still likely suffer, but your burden will be ever lighter.

Like so many things in life, you have to experience it to know it is true.

But as anyone can observe, people cling to lies and delusions as if to their very lives.

jesus christs sermon on the mount

I like to look at the G when I write something.

Sometimes I get a good laugh.

"Obama ate my pancakes" was my favorite once bacause it was the essence of the statement I made, about not taking something Obama was doing too seriously.

Righteousness is a serious topic, and the sermon on the mount is the last word on righteousness.

Re: What makes you righteous?

Thank you all for answering.
.
Jesus is my saviour and the sacrifice that gives me any righteousness I might have, Isaiah 53:10; that's no problem with me.
.
I tend to agree with Sophia and the poster who referred me to the Beatitudes; and I have no problem with preaching Jesus words, Whosoever of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple, Lk 14:33: and defining, All that believed," by Acts 2:44-45; but most people who talk about their works, will never do those works: and I recall Romans 4:1-25, and think there is more to righteousness, than trying to be righteous.
.
My real reason for starting this thread is...
.
We are supposed to be preaching forgivness of sins... and I realized after many years of reading and preaching, I don't really know how...
.
I know my sins are forgiven; but I don't understand how to preach to a Muslim or a Jew about Jesus forgiving their sins.
.
I am thinking it might help to understand, what makes other people feel righteous?

A wise man once told me.. that there's a difference between a man who walks up righteously and the man who walks up right.

The man who walks up right, is not afraid of what waits in the dark.. pope

 Quoting: anonymous 007

To preach, to teach and to witness. Your life is the biggest witness testimony you could ever put forth. Witness to them in love like you would anyone else. It is there choice to be receptive to it. Many of them (Muslims) the only knowledge they have of Jesus comes from there own book and some are not knowledgeable having never read there entire holy book to begin with.

You have a story that is your life and how you came to Christ. Use it. It is your testimony and witness of glory. Reasoned argument will not really get you very far imho there are refutations that exist for almost everything and your logic will never carry the weight of a trusted Imam for them unless you happen to have a very deep friendship with them.

Keep your place and do not cross gender lines. If you are a woman keep to the woman otherwise for most you will look foolish.

Simple clear passages work the best. John 5:24, Romans 6:23. Much of this will be apologetic's and requires a very deep set of arguments that is best saved if a friendship blooms.

I will say some of the best tests and builders of faith have come to me from others outside our faith. This was an eye opening experience for me to learn. It is generally accepted and quoted many times that God can work through anything to mold and shape His sons and daughters but to experience it first hand in a fight for truth in an easily recognizable way is a life changing experience.

Pray for them. In truth there is nothing that you can really say or do to change anything unless the spirit compels them and works through you. Aligning yourself in Christ and seating yourself inside His will has the power to change anything. 1 Corinthians 2:14 is a point you can use to pray if you need one. The biggest obstacle you face is getting them to realize that they do not have the power to atone for there own sins and if you can help them to realize the magnitude of what sin really is and that the law is powerless to save then the door will open. This is the content of Romans 3:20. Take the leap, walk boldly, plant the seeds and let the Father work. In truth and in love. God bless! :)

Thanks ByFaithAlone,

Nice post!
.
I see what you mean...
.
"The biggest obstacle you face is getting them to understand they do not have power to atone for their own sins and if you can help them understand the magnitude of what sin really is and the law is powerless to save them..."
.
That is what this thread is about!
.
Thank you for putting it into those words!
.
Not everybody acknowledges a belief in sin... and some people feel that they can make atonment for their sins with a dead chicken, a goat, an offering to the poor, or just forgiving themselves...
.
How do I help people realize the magnitude of what sin is? that they cannot atone for their own sins? and the law cannot save them?
.

You don't need to offer goods, you need to offer your life, your willpower, your intent. And you don't offer that to a deity, you offer yourself to humanity. That is the Path.

Thanks R...

Do you believe humanity is the highest form of being?
.
We can't even find about 96%of our universe... I think it's kind of presumptuos to think that out of the 96% we cannot find, and all of the galaxies we have seen through telescopes, to assume everything else in our universe is more ignorant than we are.
If we evolved, there are older planets... and my Bible says, God created the worlds.
The Letter to the Hebrews 1:2 & 11:3...
.
Either way, I don't belive we are alone in the vast expanse of space, or that we are the highest form of life.
So, why do you say, We offer ourselves to humanity?
