CO2 earth
@CO2_earth
🏆📈🏆 413.45 parts per million (ppm) #CO2 in atmosphere on January 12, 2019 🏵️🏵️ HIGHEST EVER daily average reported from Mauna Loa

I found this thread on the topic:

Peter Gleick
@PeterGleick
Jan 10

The most recent atmospheric CO2 reading is over 410 parts per million.

The last time humans experienced 410 ppm was... never. Never. Humans hadn't evolved yet.

And this post:

@anomaloushoward

Meanwhile at Mauna Loa Volcano, deformation is beginning to trend a bit parabolically.

Howdy. Hope this finds you doing well and healthy!

Have you noticed the EQs going from off the southern ridge, on a line into Iceland and now toward Katla? Can we 'guess' where the next 3.+ will be? Katla, or perhaps Bard/Grims area?

Could be an up-welling of 'pressure', massive in scale and scope that is effecting the entire midatlantic ridge over the past week. Could be the start of something really big, or nothing. (as usual...arg)

Ayup-small swarm now at Vatnajokull.

Magnitude 4,2 earthquake west of Kópasker village
Posted on March 27, 2019 by Jón Frímann
At 20:29 UTC an magnitude 4,2 earthquake took place in the earthquake swarm west of Kópasker village. This has increased the earthquake swarm in this area. The magnitude 4,2 was followed by a magnitude 3,3 earthquake few seconds later.

The earthquake swarm is currently ongoing and this information might change without warning.

The Kópasker swarm has intensified with a maximum earthquake set by duty officer at IMO to M4.2.
The solution is not final since there is simultaneous earthquake at 3.9 at shallower depth on the same location that should be homologated into the main shock.

In other words, a sinistral faultplane opened up from roughly 5km up towards the surface indicating sprungur formation. The best fit solution is an M4.5 earthquake. As such it is sizeable, but not a big one on the local scale.

M5s are not uncommon in the area, and the largest recorded earthquake is an M7.2 east of the current fault that is active.
The earthquake happened at the junction between Krafla Fissure Swarm and a fracture zone leading over to the Theistareykjarbunga Fissure Swarm.

Currently there is nothing pointing towards an eruption being in the making, but this is Iceland, and the earthquake happened on a known active fissure swarm, so things can change at a later stage.

The effect on Theistarerykjarbunga was roughly a 3 minute long low frequency reverberation, at Krafla the reverberation was 2.5 minutes long. This reverberation is caused by ecoing tremor in the respective magma bodies, which is normal after a sizeable earthquake.

There is a minor risk for a secondary larger earthquake happening at this site, or on adjacent sectors of the above mentioned faults.

Currently there is a raised low frequency level at Krafla, but nothing else seems to indicate movement of magma, so it is probably just local excitation.

I hope this cleared things up. If needed I will update this.

Update on the earthquake swarm on Tjörnes Fracture Zone (west of Kópasker village)
Posted on March 28, 2019 by Jón Frímann

Uncertainty level has been declared in the area close to Kópasker village due to this earthquake swarm. This is the lowest alert level in Iceland.

Since this earthquake swarm started on Saturday around 1800 earthquake have taken place according to Icelandic Met Office. Largest earthquakes in the last 24 hours have magnitude 3,8 and 3,0. This might change in next few hours since this earthquake swarm is ongoing.

This earthquake swarm has increased the risk of a magnitude 6,0 or larger earthquake in the Tjörnes Fracture Zone. This earthquake swarm is large for this part of the Tjörnes Fracture Zone.

Uncertainty phase due to earthquake swarm in Öxarfjörður
28. mars 2019 17:01

The National Commissioner of Police has, in consultation with the Chief of Police in the northeastern part of Iceland, has declared uncertainty phase due to the earthquake swarm in Öxarfjörður.

The earthquake swarm in Öxarfjordur is ongoing, about 6 km SW of the town of Kópasker. The swarm began last Saturday 23 of March.

Eight earthquakes of magnitude 3 or higher have been measured, the largest of which measured M4.2 yesterday evening at 20:29.

Today, 28. of March at 05:48 an earthquake of M3.8 was detected, another one M3.0 was measured at 12:37. The swarm activity has not subsided during the day and is still ongoing.

This is a known earthquake area and activity like this is well known. Larger earthquakes can occur but in most cases, the activity goes down without major event.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office has received reports from residents of Kópasker and in Kelduhverfi who have felt the largest earthquakes.

Declaring uncertainty phase means increased monitoring of scenarios that could later threaten health and safety of people, the environment or populated areas. Declaring a level of uncertainty is part of the civil protection system’s procedures to ensure formal communication and information sharing between the respondents and the public.

The Civil Protection Department of the National Commissioner of Police and the Police Commissioner in the North East encourage people who live in known earthquake areas to consider security in their homes and workplaces. On the website of the Civil Protection Department of the National Commissioner of Police (www.almannavarnir.is), information on how to reduce risk of damage and / or accidents during an earthquake. See here [link to www.almannavarnir.is (secure)]

On the IMO website you can submit notifications if you have felt an earthquake and see an overview of all earthquakes in Iceland during the last 48 hours. www.vedur.is

Over 2,000 Tremors Recorded In Northeast Iceland In Less Than A Week
Despite this area being one pronounced seismic activity—the ridge between the North American and European tectonic plates passes through the region—there are as yet no signs that a volcanic eruption is imminent. That said, authorities are in a low state of alert, monitoring the situation closely.

Earthquake swarm in Öxarfjordur, NE-Iceland.
The earthquake swarm in Öxarfjordur is ongoing, about 6 km SW of the town of Kópasker. The swarm began on last Saturday 23 of March.

Eight earthquakes of magnitude 3 or higher have been measured, the largest of which measured M4.2 on March 27th. Around 2400 earthquakes have been detected since the earthquake swarm started.

Today ( March 30th ) around 45 earthquakes have been detected, the largest one M1.7. During the last 24 hours the intensity has decreased a lot. The swarm is still ongoing. Monitoring of the earthquakes will be followed closely during the week-end.

Scientists on the Big Island are considering raising the alert level for Mauna Loa.

Experts say there’s been a slight increase in the number of earthquakes at the volcano over the past month. The largest was a magnitude 3.4 on May 1.

That article was so dumb I laughed out loud and my husband asked me what was up.

No connection between the geysers and the super volcano except that the hot magma provides heat.

No connection to the steam coming out of the pressure cooker and the stove, except the stove is hot.

This idiocy is killing us. We really, really need a better conversation, but it appears that Goog/FB/et al are doing their best to outlaw and disappear everything but chin drool. God help us all.
