Has anyone here ever read Atlas Shrugged?

Rather than read that book I just had Paul Ryan repeatedly slap me in the face with his wanger while he called me terrible names.

Basically the same thing.

I understand part 3 has just hit theaters. I saw 1&2 and thought they were outstanding!

So it's just a fun fake story - that's all.


However Detroit is a mini Atlas Shrugged right now

What I want to know is:

if all the rich people and 'job creators' go off and start their own country and no poor people are allowed in...who will work as their domestic servants to scrub their toilets and do their dishes?

I read it. I liked it very much. A good story, with some very good points.

Some movies just turn me off by the name.

That's exactly what they do. When Dagny first stayed in the hidden town for a month she was John Galt's maid. One of the major focuses about the successful people's character was that they were fine doing the simple and dirty work.

I knew from the first page that the book would change my thinking radically and it did. I couldn't stop reading.

She couldn't write and it shows in how many people throw in the towel on reading all the 50 dollar words she tried to use.

On the plus side it's a excellent tale that has been put film and they've done a great job.

Watch the movies, forget the book.

I read the book on the train day by day for over a month. It was around a thousand pages. Her philosophy of intellectuals going on strike to get their due is somewhat justified by our current situation in the economy. However, Ayn Rand had no idea of the money flow to the too few that would develop over time and those too few are not the type of people who are very charitable. They are greedy.

I think the greatest bad influence movie ever made was Oliver Stone's Wall Street. He intended the Gekko character to be despicable along with the other rich that were portrayed. Instead, the "Greed is Good" philosophy was established in the 80s and has never left our economy. There are people out there that only care about money and making more with no aim or goal.

The only good thing to be is an independent.
