User ID: 54937860 United States 07/24/2014 06:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I noticed yesterday that all of a sudden I had a new wifi signal in my house named, "xfinitywifi". BULLSHIT Quoting: rockhuff Comcast has turned my router into one of those public hotspots. Fuck that. IT WILL SUCK your bandwidth if you get some asshole freeloader hogging your signal. Won't count against your usage, but will slow YOUR PAID service down. I found a phone number that went DIRECTLY to a U.S. based Comcast Tech service person. No hold, no wait. The call took 5 minutes, I simply said that I wanted to opt-out of the free wifi on my router. The number is 855-308-9452. Good Luck!! There's a few caveats to this and this has been going on for months now. First it doesn't count against your bandwidth usage at all. What they do is wall off a port from your router and make that the public WiFi and that traffic is monitored separately. HOWEVER, it is still using your router so there are two issues here, 1. If a lot of people are using your particular hotspot then it could slow yours down. 2. Security. It probably wouldn't take a total genius to bridge that port's gap onto your private service. And lastly, go get your own wifi router, they can't do it to your router, this only happens in WiFi routers they provide. Oh, there's an app you can get for your phone where it will show you a map with all the hotspots. Actually it would take an electrical genius with access to your home. The ASIC chips are completely separate. "Some animals are created more equal than others" - Animal Farm "although encumbered everywhere, I am free." |

There are 2 separate signals that come into you home with this new system. One is for your private network and the other is for the public network. they do not share bandwidth with each other. Just letting you know. At the same time however I would never use a public network myself for other reasons. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55013894 This shill is spreading bullshit information. That shit will slow your connection down for sure. You are responsible for any sick shit someone may download on your modem. Turn that shit off. Actually I'm a CMTS engineer and its not BS. Maybe you should do some research yourself before you go blasting away at someone. "Some animals are created more equal than others" - Animal Farm "although encumbered everywhere, I am free." |

Sure thing. We will sit back and trust comcrap to not fuck up. They fuck up constantly. Just turn it off. Now at the same time I do not use comcast because it's network as a whole is not as secure as other providers. On a cabled network you can read traffic from anyone on the same node as you. COMPLETELY untrue!!! Every modem has their own BPI security cert, just to get an IP. THEN you have a separate radius seesion. you have to go back to the CMTS if you even want to check the other modems traffic and even then only with an optical tap. See I am not a shill I gave you info saying that comcast network has bigger problems than the xfinity wifi. DSL may be slower but at the same time it is safer. Direct Subscriber Line, that means you have a direct twisted pair all the way to the office , you are not sharing with anyone, cable networks you share your bandwidth and info with everyone on the same node ,,, Blah! Once again untrue, not only do you bond to different channels on the CMTS but the RF leg from the node does not allow you to pul traffic from someones downstream. if you tried you would get nothing but noise ON TOP of that they have a different BPI and radius session. Since D2 DOCSIS uses and interleaver that smashes the packets and then pieces them back together. That why DOCSIS is the only routing protocol that actually reformat and pick up lost packets. Now that we are on D3 you couldn't even guess which channel the traffic will be on, even if you could your would get noise. leaving you with garbage in and garbage out. Next there is no way to get the BPI cert with a spoofed MAC anymore because you need to get the file from BACC, so without having the modem on billing and being sent to ONLY that modem, the certs won't match. Yada Yada BTW do you have any ide how many cx are still using docsis 2.0 modems??? I do, market penetration is at 17% for network 26% in my region and 29% in my market. once again I said this is a D1.1 issue. D1.1 has been killed in all comcast markets. I say you don't know what your talking about because you obviously don't know much about the operation of a CMTS. If this was possible the the LRC wouldn't exist and the feds could tap anyone without having access to our hubs. The encryption is the reason they need to come into the hub to do it via optical tap. Your spouting misinformation and repeatedly telling me its true, when I know for a fact it isn't. You would need access to the OTN/HUB/HE to get on the CMTS and then you would still need to program the optical tap to the modem mac address, thats why they need 2 different warrants for phone and modem because the eMTA has multiples.
