I get why I see so many cars glowing blue at night - it's like I am subsidizing people's internet. Thanks for thread - will look to disconnect asap :IMangry: |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 23943453 United States 07/24/2014 11:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I noticed yesterday that all of a sudden I had a new wifi signal in my house named, "xfinitywifi". BULLSHIT Quoting: rockhuff Comcast has turned my router into one of those public hotspots. Fuck that. IT WILL SUCK your bandwidth if you get some asshole freeloader hogging your signal. Won't count against your usage, but will slow YOUR PAID service down. I found a phone number that went DIRECTLY to a U.S. based Comcast Tech service person. No hold, no wait. The call took 5 minutes, I simply said that I wanted to opt-out of the free wifi on my router. The number is 855-308-9452. Good Luck!! Hey Rock, It's not so bad really. I have tested this out for two months now and found out that my internet speed has almost doubled. You won't see or even notice any drag on your end. Since it's only for comcast customers who have an account to log into internet there won't be any freeloaders. But can I add users (friends, family, etc) to my account with their own email addresses and passwords who do not pay Comcast. Wouldn't those log-ins work. |

Quoting: chuckles45 As a former ATT DSL sub. I feel for you, if yours works fine for you, that's great, they literally forced me to get U-verse internet. They are phasing out DSL in favor of U-verse, that's what i was told on the phone when signing up. DSL service was horrible! but now, with U-verse, everything is great, getting my advertized speeds and have no problems at all after 3 months. Imagine that? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6858912 You won't dude. They paid congress big bucks to be able to do this shit so get with the program! Yes you can and its as easy as consulting a wifi topology map. You can use a program like "zenmap" to look at your wifi topology. |

There appears to be some serious misinformation here, and some valid concerns. On the other hand I'm not supposed to let you all know who I work for because I'm not authorized to speak on their behalf and I don't want to hijack the thread. what you guys think? It's best not to use their crap for this reason. I purchased my own Motorola Surfboard SB6141 modem and Asus N66W wireless router new from Amazon and do not have those issues. Make sure to turn disable WPS as anyone tech geek can hack into your router. Last Edited by FBHO on 07/24/2014 12:43 PM Marxism is the true enemy of our civilization. The probably want you to upgrade because you modem is slowing down the rest of the mac domain. Do you have a D3 modem or is it D2.0/D1.1 IF it's an older model it isn't bonding and your slowing down whatever CMTS upgrade they are doing. I'm new in town and comcast xfinity is called Comcastream and IP addresses work a bit differently That's another story but - how to test this? Need clarity on the Phantom network that you speak of but I'll try to help. If you asking about another user surfing on your internet log into the router should be a 192.168 address just google it and you can see the MACs that have joined. If you having problem with another network it's probably because the channels are over lapping. 1,6,11 are standard channels to use but people deviate from this without knowing what they are doing. see what channels they are using and give yourself some space by jumping to one of the other channels mentioned above.
