Hands-on Anarchy Playground for kids | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 22111237 United States 07/09/2014 09:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Now, I don't know about you but I never watch Katie Couric, I can't stand her, but it happened to be on television at the gym.... They were talking about anarchy playgrounds for kids located in Ithaca NY. It's not a "safe" playground that we typically see in parks, this one has wood, kids can start an open fire if they want, they can play in the mud, etc. It is supposed to foster "risky play" and there are adult play "workers" that watch over the kids. They have "Fire and Ice festivals" I mean, I get the idea because we are soooo overprotective of kids these days (having to wear a helmet, etc) But why call it Anarchy playground? My opinion is that it is a way of conditioning kids and learn how to be resourceful in an upcoming societal breakdown.......what do you think????? The playground is called The Land: "If a 10-year-old lit a fire in an American playground, someone would call the police and the kid would be taken for counseling. At the Land, spontaneous fires are a daily occurrence," Hanna Rosin writes in her cover story for this month's Atlantic. The Land, an "adventure" playground in Wales, is a radical departure from standard safety-conscious playgrounds, encouraging kids to experiment with tools, junk, and combustible materials.
