Re: mountain lion watches school kids for hours
So you honestly believe that without people these animals couldn't manage their numbers they way they've done for hundreds of thousands of years without human intervention?

How fucking stupid.

And I would never have to rely on your ignorant ass to feed me.

I'm a rural girl who grew up growing and hunting my food.

I simply have respect for nature and don't believe that it needs to be managed by man to exist.

wallcrazy

Then why are you against hunting predators?

I'm not against hunting them if NEEDED.

I don't advocate killing for the sake of killing.

Apparently the numbers of cats aren't unmanageable, they are NOT attacking people, they are NOT starving, nature is handling itself.

We don't need to be killing more.

Look at the statistics on cougar attacks.

Given the population of cougars in the area and the population density of humans, interaction and attacks are VERY rare.

Like I said, kids are more likely to be killed by a pet dog than a cougar in California.

These cats are not stupid beasts.

They are coexisting pretty peacefully with people.

I have a problem with people thinking its necessary to go out and kill them just because they happen to exist when they are doing no harm.

When we hunted, we hunted what was in season and we hunted to eat. We never killed for the sake of killing. Northern Idaho, the Kellogg area where I grew up, was right in the middle of forest - like literally. It's mining towns and forest. We didn't go out and kill things just to kill them, we knew there were predators in the woods and we lived alongside them.

We weren't ignorant, we didn't run our kids out among breeding animals or go playing in the woods when the bears were coming out of hibernation and hungry or try to play with babies.

I don't remember ANYONE ever being killed by cat or a bear or a wolf, and we lived with them in our back yard - literally.

We can coexist with these animals without killing them off.

I have never said that people shouldn't be able to hunt, never, but the hunting NEEDS to be regulated because when it's not, the predators are wiped out - we've seen it too often in the past.

I don't think that we should be killing them just because they are there, that's all.

People are hunting them, tags are issued, there are limits and legalities, and they are within reason.

Mountain lions DO NOT coexist peacefully with people.

I too have had them in my yard literally. I've the scratch trees to prove it.

Ever go for a walk after a rain on a well used trail only to find mountain lion track in your footprints on the way back?

And there is plenty of deer around here and other suitable traditionl lion prey.

Mountain lions are OPPORTUNISTIC! Do not forget that.

There is nothing wrong with wanting a safe place to live for you and your children. And that is why there is nothing wrong with killing off a natural wild unpredictably predator that encroaches on your safety.

The argument of letting it live and it is nature is complete and utter rubbish. Why do we have police? So that we can live civil and safe. Maybe we should just let human predators walk freely as well they are part of nature. Rapists and murderers should never be incarcerated let nature balance it out, yes thats it. If I live rurally and there are wolves or lions that encroach on my life or my family I will do just as the police do in your urban hovel. I will enforce a law of human nature of survival and desire to live.

Never , ever run when encountering a lion

It triggers a predatory response

^^This. All the attacks I've heard of have been joggers. And the joggers don't even know they are being stalked until it's too late.

Don't usually expect them in the cities, though. Joggers on mountain trails are taking chances.
