Quoting: Em18966 These cat's aren't stupid, they know people kill them, he didn't want to die for his dinner. Also an opportunistic predator , if everything lined up he would of attacked Lions need a deer every 6 to 12 days , if they are behind and the right jogger runs by , it is what it is Once they attack a human? They will do it again , lions must be hunted to keep numbers down No, more people need eaten by cats, to keep the numbers down. LOL, this. That cat wasn't a 'threat.' Like I said, if he'd wanted to eat a kid, he certainly would have. He was just chillin. These kitties aren't dumb, they know that people are assholes and kill them for pleasure - they tend to stay the hell away from us whenever possible. And if they are starving to death and try to snag a jogger, you can't really blame them. I mean, everything's gotta eat. We (humans) divert all of the water and hunt all of their natural prey and take all of their habitat and then bitch when they have the audacity to exist among us, as if they have a choice. What the hell?? We don't need more culling of our big cats, we need to respect their habitat and stop human encroachment. Humans are more adaptable to live in areas these cats can't - we need to be the ones moving so that they can coexist, not killing them off for another strip mall or subdivision. |

I can't you people that want to kill everything that is in your way. You don't hike at certain times and you don't go alone. You never leave children unattended. Also, unattended children are more likely to be taken by a human predator than a big cat. May you nature haters all starve for killing the earth. Quoting: Chip Bottom line...environmentalists are fucking retarded. 22,000 deer per week are slaughtered by lions. 22,000! You know how many families that could feed? it's like killing one owl to protect another owl, looks like they both did okay before people came along to "manage" them In the meantime, you can't cut down trees, so after a few years fire and pine beetles or some other infestation kills them all anyway "It's a friendly friendly world" (Andy Kaufman) Calm seas do not a sailor make, Nor easy horses, a horseman. Quoting: Chip That is absolutely correct , the only way to save predators is to hunt them Other wise they over populate and decimate all game " then people" Exactly. There are an estimated 44,000 mountain lions in cali. That means a minimum of 22,000 deer per weak are killed feeding these predators that would love nothing more than to eat us and out children. That is way to many , I was not aware the numbers were out of control Not good Had this thread saved in a tab earlier & just got around to reading it. But wanted to put this out there so people don't think there's a cougar behind every bush. The actual number of mountain lions in California is around 4000. In researching in the past I have found estimates as high as 5000 but trust the organization at the following link: [link to www.mountainlion.org] Plus would like to add that many more people die from dog attacks each year than from mountain lion attacks. And same for snake bites. So your chances of those happening to you are higher than a cougar attack. But that is not to say that they are not dangerous. They do go after children & people jogging/biking. I've lived in the mountains including Yosemite area (large population of them) most of my life and have been around mountain lions often. We had a ranch in Yosemite area with a female & her 2 babies living on a small hill just above our house. We also had a deer-run across our property and that is why she was there. She didn't once bother our horses or other animals because she had an abundance of her favorite food on our property - deer. We let her be and had no problems. A healthy adult cougar is focused on deer for food. But the young cougars and the old who don't hunt well any longer do go after easy prey such as your pets. So best to keep them inside at night if you live in an area with cougars. Plus there are many other predators such as fox, raccoon that prey on smaller pets. And don't recommend biking or jogging through the woods for many reasons & mountain lions is one of them. If your kids are with you keep them close. When walking through woods good idea to look for tracks of what has been before you or what might be behind you. Also look up. Have seen many cougars in the trees. It's not impossible to live with these beautiful creatures if you use some common sense and precautions. |

It's the result of what predators do once there numbers are too high ! Wolves pose the same problem , " they decimate the game population " They literally hunt it out ! Her brother was attacked by a bobcat with rabies. It was in his barn loft and jumped on his back. He choked it to death in a struggle for life and death. By then they had a shot for rabies and lived, but received a shit ton of stitches. My grandmother told of seeing them up in trees ready to pounce on whatever happened along. She said that her daddy pounded it in her head that if she ever heard one scream up close to quickly jump as far as she could because they scream right before they pounce. |
