Empaths: real or not?

Yeah, that classification stuff, not sure. I just know that I'm different and spot on when it comes to sensing and feeling things, sniffing out stupid/evil people, dealing with kids and animals, strangers telling me their life stories, yada yada yada.
I'm pretty social though, but after a function or party I am completely spent.

Unfortunately it is real - to the wolf making sense - it doesn't make me feel special, it hurts. I don't necessarily feel peoples emotions, but I do feel people's pain, I feel it like my own pain. It sucks. My kids friend took a spill right in front of me the other day and it was like I got kicked in the nuts.

I will also say that I have passively received thoughts from other people, and specifically an acquaintance who I have no real relationship with, yet it has happened many times. Now I just send a text, and she is like OMG! Kinda funny.

Don't know how or why any of this happens.

Also, I'm narcissistic/self involved, generally (not happy about that either) so that is weird too.

But it is definitely for real.

And I'll tell you this - generally people are fucking stressed out, almost to the point of panic, this balloon has been blown up real big, and is soooo close to popping. Hybrid suv driving suburbanites are inches away from total savagery.

I've thought about this quite a bit and it seems to me that perhaps the passive kind should bear a different name since the two, although related, are quite different. Having someone's emotional state seep into yours is much different than consciously trying to understand what someone is thinking and feeling.

The survival skill angle is an interesting one. Perhaps spiritual leaders stopped teaching about it and it became the stuff of woo woo.

There are definitely people who will suck every bit of vitality from you. I have one living across the street.

Do you find that kids gravitate to you? I'm a child magnet. Babies and toddlers I've never seen before just stare at me when I'm out and about. It's cool but can be a tad disconcerting.

It sucks to admit it, but I tend to be that way too. Always inside my own head. Interesting.

You cut yourself, I will feel it.
I feel emotions, physical phenomena, music, thoughts, ideas.

And the pain these days is excruciating. It wasn't always this bad.

I have never felt the pain physical, just emotional. It started about 6 weeks ago that I am getting physical sensations/stitches where someone else has pain or a problem

I think it's hard for us to be rude and we're good listeners. Maybe we see beyond people's outward annoyances and understand them. And they feel it. Just like animals, who smell fear. We don't project it, so they trust us.

But I love kids. I'll be a superhero vigilante in my next life...like a Machete defending abused children. Lol.

I personally think it's pretty simple, not something with strict boundaries, etc.
And along those lines, isn't it funny how you can get along with some people absolutely amazingly well? I think it's that same magic.

me too, Ella. Liars make me crazy. I wish they would just tell the truth, even if its hard, rather than leave me guessing and wondering.

Mental health center can be tough. It's a nice place and people are cared for and peaceful, but sometimes there is so much pain.

It really is difficult. Anxiety and stress follow and result in me generally not being in groups of people bigger than 3-5 and I must know them very well. It is hard to see people lie, and know they are lying to you, thinking they have fooled you.. Before you guys start talking about whether they are real or not you should question whether you want this gift.. I can help people just by sensing them.. feeling their energy I know what they need. But there are people I can do nothing for, and I must bear this load knowing I can't change them. It's hard man..

I am working in a hospital. Best training ground for "shielding". Working on ICU since 18 years now and yes, some days its hard, especially if I am not to well myself.
The hardest for me is if I don't get time on my own. I can't be constantly around people I do need time without anyone near me
