Why gold? What is it's value? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 3747868 United States 05/26/2014 11:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Gold has value because of its rarity & properties. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33331756 Especially it's combination of properties. Gold will not rust, tarnish, or decay. It is inert, acid wont disolve it. Its very malleable, reflective, and a good conductor of electricity. So the fact that its malleable & wont rust/tarnish makes it great for dental work. Its malleable and conducts electricity makes it great for connecting electrical leads. Its reflective and wont rust makes it great as a sun shield for astronoughts & the ISS. There are many other things gold does well, but you get the point. Silver conducts electricity better than gold, but silver is not as malleable and it tarnishes...so silver isn't the best metal to use for these applications. What about Platinum and Rhodium ? Interesting points. I think maybe because in the same way that the dollar has been linked to oil; gold is linked to the value of human beings as a commodity and so it is representative of that on the world stage - so at one time it could mean value related to humans trafficked - and at others to moral values - I think it is secretly to do with this. It has metaphoric value - which is a depiction of reality in some way. Maybe. xx This is a good hypothesis related to the historical importance of gold. Gold, silver, platinum and others belong to the group known as "noble metals". One only has to look up the definition of "noble" to see the connection. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 58506467 Poland 05/27/2014 01:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What is the true value of gold? I've learned much about our fiat system & know that paper currency is worthless because it holds no true value. Ok. Got it. Why is a gold backed system better? What is the worth of gold? What is it about gold other than it's beauty? Or is that it? It' seems the only things with true worth are shelter and sustenance. Quoting: emmieaz Metal is a crystal! It grows, does not fall out the sky. Everyt in the universe is crystals. Even focils turn to stone = crystals. The movie superman is based on this. No think crystals = magnets = gravety Crystal Radio = computers clock speed = vibrations CCystals = Electricity GOLD has no real value Property does (SPACES on this planet) |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35972969 I guess that's the basis of my question. There is only two awnsers 1. People loved writing on stone, but it corodes, gold last longer so if you write on it or make things form it it last a long time. 2. Like the fiat system, gold is just anothe rponzi system. The elites of the same day know people traded among themself and were very self efficient. The made value from gold so they could be in CONTROL. When people mine the gold you now have a system where you can cut it in half and claim it as TAX. Without it you cannot chop a sheep or cow in half, as it will be dead and need to be consumed leaving you with nothing to HORD! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35972969 Was already mentioned in this thread why gold is so valuable. The Anunaki came to mine gold for their own survival, they were the rulers, and they valued gold above all else. When they left, ruthless humans stepped up to fill the power vacuum and they sought gold too, to ape their former leaders, even thought they had no idea what to do with gold -- it was the rulers due. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3747868 Forget the monetary "value" of gold. It has been a sign of wealth, power and status for, at least, thousands of years. That hasn't suddenly changed. Only your perception of what is valuable has been changed and that's intentional. I know there is no true monetary value is gold. That just takes you round in circles. Is there another value is what I was pondering. The more rare something is, the higher it's subjective value |

I person sees me with the deer and after confirming he/she is alone and not in a position to steal it from me. Then he/she offers me an oz, a pound, or a ton of gold or any other so called precious rock. I would have to decline, I would barter, but it would have to be something that I need. That is what it's value will be. But today it's a good way to lose money, a year or two ago you could have made a little money off it, may still be able to before the end. Good luck $$$$$$$$$$ |

Gold is the most maleable and ductile of all the metals. One ounce of gold can be drawn into more than 80 Km of thin gold wire. One ounce of gold can be beaten into a sheet covering 9 square meters and 0.000018 cm thick. Gold has an electrical resistivity of 0.022 micro-ohm and a thermal conductivity of 310 W m-1. hence, it is very efficient for the transmission of heat and electricity. Gold has the highest corrosion resistance of all the metals and it is corroded only by a mixture of nitric and hydrocloric acid. Gold is a noble metal because it does not oxidize. |
