Crossfit. Is it a fad, or here to stay?

Crossfit is a semi-recent fitness approach here in the states.

Yeah. That was kind of my take as far as it being for the trendies. I enjoy living healthy and a lot of the blogs that I read are referencing it, so I was just wondering.

Just like other "workout" trends it will eventually burn out for whatever reason and something will take its place.

What does this 'crossfit' fitness approach entail?

From what I understand, you lift "heavy" things, sprint, and just really push yourself. No fancy machines. A lot of body weight resistance. Squares, dead lifts, etc. but. I really don't know much about it.

I mean it's great that Crossfit is getting people to start taking care of themselves, but to me it's a poorly structured exercise circuit.

The thing that pisses me off about Crossfit is that they don't harp on form. You should not be putting any weight on the bar for a power lift when your form is not perfect. There might be a few gyms that do harp on form, but from what i've mostly seem they just want to cash another check.

Haven't people been breaking their backs doing incorrect lifts? I want to say a guy even broke his back during the crossfit championship.

Was this directed towards me? No thanks. I don't want to have more muscles than most men. Fit? Yes. Toned? Yes. Muscles protruding like a skinny gay body builder? No. Although the bolt ons do make them kind of feminine, I guess.
