Re: The secret night-life of a computer - Windows 7 is a party animal
Long time now ago I ran a windows ME server and to my surprise, someone low level formatted my beloved machine. Course I had no firewall or anti viral shit knocker. I was in my glory running a web server and thought I was the smartest guy on the fucking planet.

Than, another time I had the machine on all night and around 2 am while in and out of sleep with art bell on, the machine exploded in a flash.

WOW!!!, I flew outa bed and went WTF. The power supply went critical and blew.

Now days, I shut the power of completely at the plug so shit doesn't happen anymo.

There is no such thing....as a Windows ME server.
Windows 98 was a desktop O/S....and a poor one at that.

Every night, exactly the same time my comp turns itself up and begins to operate.
Not just hums, but whistles, klicks, flashing light: it obviously doing something.
It works for an hour or more (never had the patience to wait it out)

Actually, my son could do that^^ he has programmed his computer and named it...tells it what files to go into, to delete, to run..just by speaking...really cool.

UNPLUG YOUR COMPUTOR AT NIGHT AS WELL AS YOUR PHONE LINE.

It can't update or turn on or watch you if it is completely disconnected from the power. I have a kill switch on mine.

Besides you don't want your router continuely zapping your area with waves of Cancer all night do you...?

OP you need to task scheduler , then disable all scheduled maintenance tasks. usually start around 1-3 am when idle for 5 min.

That is that we figured out at the first page of this thread.
Disabling would probably work, but how do I know which one is really necessary?
