Time.

So, following what I stated the other day, I have been thinking rather a lot about supposed temporal shifts that have occured and what may be their cause. I will provide a link to Comperio's thread from the other day with regard to a flight in the late 60's that lost all radar, radio contact and even time itself for what appears to be for 10 minutes:

When we view time, we need to begin with our own perception of it in order to try to understand its nature, how it works and how we manage to flow effortlessly along its path. As we 'look' at it from our perspective it is regarded as being the "arrow of time" since it seems to move from the past through the present to the future at a fairly constant rate. In view of the universe as a whole, it is very difficult to imagine that a single arrow of time works for the entire universe, however. For one thing, it’d need to be an awfully big arrow and would need to be acting everywhere simultaneously and instantaneously in order to maintain its apparent continuity everywhere.

Now, in order for these temporal events to occur: either this single arrow of time needs to overlap, or, there isn’t just a single arrow of time but many of them, perhaps even infinitely many arrows of time working together to construct time as we know it. In fact, time could very well be of a similar nature to gravity in view of current theory. Time could have its own "timon" like we see that gravity appears to work with its own hypothetical "graviton". It all goes back to whether time is a discrete or continuous quantity - however these temporal shifts may very well be evidence for time’s discreteness in which case it could be made of elementary particles like the graviton, baryonic matter etc.

Just some food for thought, since this isn't the only apparent occurence of such a phenomenon. It is plausible to compare time to gravity because gravity has an infinite range governed by the inverse square law, and time also appears to have an infinite range - but governed by a constant. And, in order for time to even speed up or slow down, it needs to have some form of 'elasticity' which could very well be provided by a stream of such elementary particles acting together in waveforms.

Temporal shift is nothing more than variations in definitions...
