Can you help me recall a term that geophysicists use? -- I'll have to illustrate....

1) observe the shape of the African plate -- it's almost a mirror of the visible continent

2) observe that the Pacific plate has basically the same shape, but larger

3) now think of a spiral structure -- a whirlpool, or a hurricane, a galaxy

Ignoring continental drift for the moment, I remember reading a geophysicist's explanation that these plates produce a motion like a spiral, but of course that this is ultra slow motion over eons. Part of that explanation used that term I'm looking for.

I want to say it's a cross between subduction and torque. It has something to do with that spiraling motion and intersecting plates.

Yes OP did an outstanding job on this and as always I will add a biblical truth to this for those with eyes to see a ears to hear .

Like a woman in travail with child the earth is in travail waiting to deliver also , and just as a child comes closer to being born the pains increase in both frequency and level so it is with the earth delivering man onto a new age .

The earth right now is out of whack somewhat , true north and magnetic Roth have been off for some time by as much as 18 degrees or more , the bible says there will be an earthquake so great the likes that have never been felt and never will again on a global scale where every single person will feel it ,it will also cause three days of darkness . I also believe this event will bring the ear back into alignment where true and magnetic north match up and the wobble goes away .

On a side note I have a very good high end compass and lately I watch the magnetic north drift back in fourth from magnetic north to true celestial north every day in a cycle , the earth or its core is wobbling to cause this effect , i tested this with another compass and got the same results so it is not me or the compasses . I suggest others try this by placing the compass in a set position and marking magnetic north with the outside ring of the compass and the time of days , then just watch the magnetic pointer drift In a 24 hour cycle .

They should have buoy sms and email alerts for line drop events. The alerts go to servers that can handle the distribution to subscribers. Perhaps they have basic warnings for this to earthquake teams around the world.

Unless there's loads of line drops happening everyday on various buoys. False positives.

Of all the buoys around the world the ONLY ones that have shown these type of adjustments are from Sumatra to the Solomon Islands.
That is the area where something is going on deep below, when a plate shift occurs in that region pressure is transferred causing large earthquake/s in the lower Americas.
All the screenshots are side by side and that's simply what it all shows.
It's not like this is the first time seismologists and geophysicists officially acknowledged this to have occurred right after the twin 8 pointers by Sumatra of April 2012, however shit has been shifting ever since.

Maybe because some horrendous earthquake may hit a heavily populated area and they don't want mayhem to break out beforehand.....?

There are none there because they aren't needed there.
Unlikely there would be a big enough quake from the Indian ocean, but they have 2 up north near Christmas island, Timor sea. Also, there is hardly anyone there and no nice government things to worry about. The east coast really only has those couple up top to catch them from Solomons area. Now the two down the bottom between Tassie and South island of New Zealand they are really interesting. Have a look where they are.

Macquarie island gets lots of quakes and the bouy's appear to be placed just west of the fault. Next stop Hobart.
We got nothing down here. I have dirt road and no power where I live. Hobart is not much more than a big country town. And we got 2 bouy's.
