That is a very good point, I would like to know who the person doing the historical writing was. This was probably archived and just released.

I'm sorry but it just seems like they are trying to give him some sort of sympathetic slightly dignifying death. He was honestly probably there to sleep with some tribes underage girls and got caught pissing on some Chief's grandfather's headstone.

Just the mention of him being the Heir was to dignify his death.

What the tribesmen supposedly did was brutal and disgusting. But it was a rockefller so im finding it a bit hard to have any sympathy. I seriously doubt he was there just to trade for artifacts and such....there probably a much more sinister story behind why he was there in the first place.

To answer how all the grusesome details were recorded:

In virtually all primitive tribes -where there is no written form of language- their history is recorded orally. Sacred tribesmen [their spiritual leaders] are taught the old traditions, rituals and tribal heritage at an early age by listening to the previous generation of Elders. It then becomes their job to do the same for the following generation to maintain the culture of the tribe. You'll note that those tribesmen the autor interviewed were sons of the men who committed the crime. It was common for an entire family to be comprised of "scribes." The Father passes the oral heritage to the son and so on... and thus a constant tribal record is kept.

Historically, most of the Pacific Rim tribes were violent until the Catholic Church invaded with western culture... but in the early 60's there were still several active tribes with Papua, New Guinea the best-documented. As late at the 80's a tribe would still be discovered in the deep Amazon although they had adapted to modern behaviour through necessary interaction.

I'll believe this if I could read more recorded history from this tribe, other than its just generalization.
