Doctors Nurses Lawyers Anyone - Would Like Your Two Cents - AND YOUR PRAYERS PLEASE A bad outcome doesn't always equal medical malpractice. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50720828 Your daughter could have had a ton of adhesions due to her endometriosis that could have plastered her colon and bladder walls to her uterus. Damage to the bladder and ureters is a known complication of hysterectomies; damage to the colon, less so, but a risk. Sounds like you had a pretty average gynecologist operate on your daughter, which isn't surprising because most OB-GYNs are average to terrible surgeons. This is going to be hard case to prove malpractice on. Sorry this had to happen. If she still had fibroids inside her after they opened her up to deal with the colon, then they could have chosen not to remove fibroids in delicate areas. |

Doctors Nurses Lawyers Anyone - Would Like Your Two Cents - AND YOUR PRAYERS PLEASE 1-power of attorney 2-copies of medical records 3-lawyer 4- sign consent forms so the lawyer can obtain copies of medical records-this should be the only point at which the hospital has the heads up you are pursuing this. Until your lawyer has papers in hand do not speak of it to anyone else within that hospital. 5- give the lawyer your copies for comparison on any changes or edits to the original paper work |

Doctors Nurses Lawyers Anyone - Would Like Your Two Cents - AND YOUR PRAYERS PLEASE Endometriosis is a female health disorder that occurs when cells from the lining of the womb (uterus) grow in other areas of the body. This can lead to pain, irregular bleeding, and problems getting pregnant _______________ I had no idea what this was. Glad I'm a guy. This sounds like tough surgery to begin with. The part I am wondering is why the doc proceeded if he thought it wasn't something he couldn't handle. Sorry to hear about this. |

Yes this is malpractice! Get a lawyer. Most will do it for a percent of whatever you win. She's in my prayers. I've had 4 surgeries myself for endo so I know the real pain your poor daughter has lived with for most of her life. Worst disease out there in my opinion. Take care. I Want To Believe |

Considering their line of work and work environment, one would think they should be at the very top of the drug tested professions list!! |

I've had the experience that in a smaller town (don't know where you live), the local lawyers may be reluctant to sue a local doctor and or hospital, and this is for all kinds of reasons. GO to a nearby larger city and get the biggest and best law firm that specializes in medical malpractice. |

Bladders heal well but the perforation of the colon is dangerous but if the infection is caught early plus she is young so that bodes well for healing. But these are known risks...so good luck. |

Doctors Nurses Lawyers Anyone - Would Like Your Two Cents - AND YOUR PRAYERS PLEASE Reading through this thread the focus seems to be on medical records and attorneys. While that is important the priority right now is obtaining the best medical care possible for your daughter. My advise is do not let anyone at that hospital even think you might be looking into legal action! Go ahead and document and try to get medical records but be sly about it. Maybe ask for a copy of medical records if she is transferred but again, act as if it's for medical not legal. Make friends with the nurses. The nurses will not only be important in caring for your daughter they may also be the best source for advising you about doctors. Make friends with the nurses! Do what you can to get other medical opinions. Another reason not to tip your hand about contacting an attorney, other doctors which may be able to help will shy away if they get word about legal action. First priority, the best medical care for your daughter. Also good idea for a family member to be at the hospital at all times. The night shift is a good time to pick up information. Also monitor whatever they are doing for your daughter but again in a polite manner You catch more flys with honey. My career was hosp. admin I know first hand what happens once legal action is a concern. For now be as nice as possible and do whatever you can to get the best care possible for your daughter |

I used to work a while back as a nurse in the states and when we were told patients were looking into legal action, nurses were very vigilant about the care they gave. So in a way, that patient kind of got priority care. And that was because as we were told, the fuck up happened in surgery, so they wanted to make sure nothing else happened on the floor. |
