HD, As mentioned by BB, you can do that with the edit function ~ just place your cursor in the title area and change away!  In edit-mode there IS no title-area. (At least for me.) And during writing the post in the first place I can't edit the subject.  I remember that for a while it was actually possible, but then it was changed again. Hmmm...I change the Subject of Titles frequently. For me, it apears as the top-most line on the edit page.
