Oklahoma is now having a crazy amount of ongoing Mysterious booms "Terrifying & Puzzling" Residents! As an Oklahoman I can confirm. We've had more earthquakes here in the past year than we've ever had. Many speculate it is from fracking. I know in the metro area, they aren't as bad as a little further east (of the metro area) like Jones, where my Aunt says they happen all the time. |

I lived in an area in Ca. back in the 70's we heard LOUD BOOMS, then felt like a truck had hit the house. we had these kind of small loud quakes for about 6-9 mos before having a big one that was 6.2 or thereabouts. Very loud. the noise is very real. wrap/pack your antiques and precious glass items! |

Oklahoma is now having a crazy amount of ongoing Mysterious booms "Terrifying & Puzzling" Residents! Are people in Oklahoma just hearing booms or also feeling quakes? Just curious because USGS is reporting quakes pretty much daily it seems.. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51694662 I live in NE Oklahoma - to the west of Tahlequah, and SE of Tulsa. I work most days and cannot hear the booms inside. But when I am home and outside, I hear them often. This past Saturday (2/15/14) I heard 3 and the last was around sunset and SUPER loud. Many will cause the ground to shake and this one did as well, but was even louder than most. They sound like artillery or cannon booms. Not like a sonic boom (heard plenty of them in my youth growing up near Tinker AFB, before they were banned). They seem to come from the ridge to the NW of us, and not from the sky. I have never seen military jets associated with them. If I am in contact with the ground, I feel a mild shaking with most booms. To my knowledge, there are no quarries or blasting sites nearby. We live on a major tributary of the Illinois river and the area derives much of it's commerce from agriculture and tourism. Few oil/gas wells, and little current drilling in the area. No known fracking as is common in central, SE and Western OK. Very puzzling. I grew up in Central OK and have lived in various parts of the State. Never have experienced these booms before the past 2 years. Increasing infrequency as well. ***** |

I don't think there is a fault line there in that area. It really makes me think it is due to the fracking going on. Right around the time of this earthquake, I swear I felt the shockwave go through me. The last big quake in Oklahoma that was felt all the way up here in Wichita, KS, I felt the shockwave first and then the shaking. It went right through my body like I had stuck my finger in a socket or something. I felt that last night around the exact same time, only this time I never felt the shaking. It freaked me out. For a second I thought I was having a heart attack (which was my thought also with the 1st quake until I felt the shaking). I Want To Believe |

Exxon is the best. Okay Mr. Disinfo agent First of all I never called it sonic booms.. I said they weren't sonic booms but rather geological booms. Secondly and most importantly.. you say "there is 0 relationship between earthquakes and sounds"?? Really? Based on what? Obviously you didn't read the thread or have no clue of history showing the many connections between earthquakes and sounds/booms. Here's a piece from a 1979 issue of Science Magazine titled, "Natural explosive noises". In which they go into South Carolina specifically. Screenshot and link to source below: [link to worldtracker.org] For at least 18 months before that earth- quake there were heard scores of dull booming noises, many accompanied by shocks, near the town of Ninety-Six in western South Carolina;(32). Re- ports of these explosive sounds were even published 3 months before the great earthquake(33) Science magazine went into multiple pieces of evidence stating how booms PRECEDED the earthquake, including published 3 month before the earthquake!!! Plus they show the sources to everything as well. That should be obvious enough for you but lets go one step further. Being USGS said there was little mention and evidence of these sounds preceding/occurring before the event.. I went into newspaper archives to see if talk of preceding booms made the papers long long ago. Links will be below each screenshot The Anderson intelligencer., September 30, 1896 [link to chroniclingamerica.loc.gov] The Laurens advertiser., December 01, 1896 [link to chroniclingamerica.loc.gov] The people's journal., December 03, 1896 [link to chroniclingamerica.loc.gov] The Anderson intelligencer., September 30, 1896 [link to chroniclingamerica.loc.gov] The St. Louis Republic., November 05, 1903 Found this in my search as well... "sounds" preceding shocks, followed the course of the great shakes of 1811-1812 for the New Madrid quake [link to chroniclingamerica.loc.gov] Science magazine wrote about it, it's also in newspaper archives that can be found about BOOMS THAT PRECEDED THE SOUTH CAROLINA EARTHQUAKE! Precursory Booms leading up to geological upheaval wasn't limited to just South Carolina and New Madrid. Booms leading up to the 8.1 earthquake in Assam 1897: The 7.8 earthquake in San Francisco of 1906 is well known but what isn't is that rumbling noises preceded that earthquake as well: and yet another such occurrence preceding the Caldiran-Muradiye 7.3 earthquake of 1976: All this can be found in the Science magazine article I mentioned earlier. [link to worldtracker.org] I showed you proof where's you proof of the "0 relationship" you speak of??? I'll be waiting.... |

Oklahoma is now having a crazy amount of ongoing Mysterious booms "Terrifying & Puzzling" Residents! We had one last week here in Stillwater. Thought that a pump jack had exploded. Quoting: docsquat As for fracking, They haven't been doing much of that because of the frozen ponds and they have to pipe the water above ground to get it to the wellsite. So, unless there is a delay of a couple of weeks between the frac and the boom there probably isn't a relationship between the two. The earth is angry my friends and she's rattling her cage. At my house if feels like when a roller coaster hooks onto the chain that takes it to the top. A sudden jolt followed by minor shaking for 15 seconds or so. Fracking has infinite impacts. |
