You should read "Quarantine" the scifi novel. It deals with this concept. Aliens enclose our solar system in a "bubble" to keep us from collapsing eigenstates of distant regions of developing space by looking at it. we were freezing it to our reality and devastating potential expansion or changes for other emerging consciousness.
