Dinesh D'Souza Arrested, $500,000 Bond Required for a Single "Campaign Finance" Violation

Conservative author Dinesh D’Souza was indicted Thursday on federal charges of violating campaign finance laws by using straw donors to funnel money to a U.S. Senate candidate. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York announced the grand jury charges in a statement Thursday. D’Souza is expected to be arraigned Friday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

His attorney, Benjamin Brafman, released a statement to reporters saying that D’Souza’s efforts to help a friend running for the Senate in 2012 was “at most” an “act of misguided friendship.”

D'Souza was released on a $500,000 bond on Friday. He was asked to surrender his passport and agree to certain travel restrictions.
D'Souza's attorney, Benjamin Brafman, says D'Souza "did not act with any corrupt or criminal intent," and Molen says the charge against D'Souza could be an act of political retribution for 2016, a critical look at President Barack Obama, or an effort to stymie his next film, which is due four months before midterm elections.

I'd call this a major act of escalation by Team-Zero. It fits with their need to have some distractions as the wheels come off everything, economically.
