WTF: City considers ban on chain-link fences YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT CHAIN-LINK FENCES!!!
"CARSON (CBSLA.com) — Some Carson residents are against a new city Planning Commission proposal that would prohibit the use of chain-link fences in residential neighborhoods and business areas.

If passed, people would have three years to comply to the new rules."

“I’m retired. My husband is retired. There are only so many dollars coming in. Do I have to make a loan I can’t afford because the city doesn’t like my fence?” Subiate said."
More here: [link to losangeles.cbslocal.com]

WTF? I am getting so tired of this shit. I've got endless "code compliance" BS to deal with in my city, but This fence thing is a whole new ball game. Today if you live in a city, your property is not really yours, because if you "don't comply" you get fined up the wazoo!

Endless BS! rant

America sucks! Why does everyone feel like they have the right to dictate how someone uses their property beyond being a nuisance? This is why America will never be fixed.

It doesn't matter what you think. If someone wants it on THEIR property, that's their business, not yours. Don't like it? Don't look at it! granny

If a group of people have the ability to exert their will over others they will.

City ordinances and HOA's represent some of the worst examples of Freedom destroyers in the US.

Stay away from them if you can. Your community won't come to your aid because the heart, motivation, and philosophy of it has been destroyed with years of misdirection, apathy, and worthless social issues to divide an conquer the populace.

Like a poster said earlier. It's more important for that poster that they don't have eye sores then your freedom to have them.

Sell the place, and move out to the country. I'd have you for a neighbor. We could cook out on Saturday at my house, and do one at yours a couple weeks later! Also, don't mind if you have a fence, chickens, or anything else so long as it doesn't hurt me. (And if it does, I'll knock on your door, talk to you man to man about it instead of running and crying to the nanny state!)

I didn't write the bylaws of my hoa. just stating I agree with the reasons....they are ugly and bring down everyone's property value.

I've been considering that for a while. Cities will be the first to collapse. I'd much rather live out with a few like minded neighbors who know what's going on and and work together to watch out for each other. If more people were like that we wouldn't be heading down the crapper so fast, and it would be much easier to turn this insanity around.

Go for it! If you're on a fixed income, you'll find the property taxes, taxes in general are less, property values are more reasonable, and the people are more friendly.

If you have no need to be close to work your options are wide open!

This is income generation through fines and fees. As the ability to tax properties declines they must find revenue to pay for the city services.

Every town large and small is latching on to this. Whether they use the police to ticket people for minor infractions or code enforcement.

A town near me recently cracked down on sidewalks. They required sidewalks on all properties and if cracked or broken they had to be replaced. If not the owner would be fined and fined. You have to pay for a permit to replace or repair the sidewalk so they get you coming and going.

The town also raised all of its fines by 300% and raised the prices on parking lots. This town lacks a thriving downtown but to drive revenue they charge for parking and limit downtown parking to 3 hours. Trust me it would be a punishment to spend three hours in this downtown it is full of dollar stores and homeless people. There are signs everywhere warning against loitering.

Everything is contractual.
The City assumes the contract. You signed the HOA.
The City does not have the right to tell you what to do.
The HOA has the right to make you honor the contract.

The City will act on the assumption with guns if necessary.
The HOA should not have to act. You signed the agreement.
