This guy carries a small plastic pencil sharpener in his survival kit. Weighs almost nothing. He then puts a pretty good size twig in it and produces very fine wood shavings for tinder to get a fire going. What a brilliant idea..... |

I don't like to pester sites too much but most of those listed I have. I'm in the process of copyting all those files to a flash drive. I plan on putting a flash drive, a small, pocket sized wi-fi media streamer and an older android phone in a steel ammo can. That good enough ideas for you? |

In case of a solar or man-made EMP, it could render the phone useless. Buy or otherwise acquire an older smartphone (people are constantly upgrading their phones and getting rid of their old ones - ask around), and keep it locked away in a Faraday cage. One of the many said downloadable manuals will have information on how to build your own. |

I plan on putting a flash drive, a small, pocket sized wi-fi media streamer and an older android phone in a steel ammo can. That good enough ideas for you? A Faraday cage or microwave oven might be safer storage. Why all the shielding? Nothing can get through that steel ammo can, nothing. Besides, it probably won't even take that. Even that is an extreme case, being able to survive and EMP so strong that you'd be more worried about the blast than anything. Most people really don't understand the mechanics of an EMP or even basic electronics. An ammo can is WAY MORE EFFECTIVE than a faraday cage because its solid, not that it would be really needed. In fact, depending on how your faraday cage is constructed, it could actually cause your components much more damage than they would get from an EMP if they were sitting on the kitchen table. Most people that build a faraday cage overlook something that puts their equipment in grave danger because, originally, a faraday cage was designed to block EMISSIONS (spurious and non-spurious). An EMP is not an "emission" of sorts at all. Its a jump, a spike, so to speak, in the very molecular fabric of the surrounding conductive materials. It takes a special design to combat that. Most designs I see actually will MAKE IT WORSE! Faraday cages may keep lightning, microwave and RFI emissions at bay but they will AMPLIFY the effect of an EMP! There is only one special construction method that will stop it. Hehehe. I've figured it out but no one else has. I'm not sure if I'm just smarter or just have the right combination of knowledge to make the relization. It may just be the fact that I have huge backgrounds in Amateur Radio, Residential/Commercial Electricity and Digital Electronics plus a study of EMP and lightning that gives me the edge. No, you don't need a "Faraday" cage, you need a "Ranger Cage". I've tested and proven that it works. But, fortunately, for most, there will never be an EMP bad enough to really need a Ranger Cage because for an EMP to be that bad you would be way more worried about the actually blast than you would from the EMP itself. EMP doom is off. Sure, it would take the grid down but, mostly, thats it. Before you criticize: THAT WOULD BE BAD ENOUGH. The government estimates are a 90% die off in 6 months. Not a bad thing when you consider that only about 10% of the population is worth anything to this world. Lazy. Stupid. Dishonest. Violent. An EMP would actually be a blessing, ridding the earth of a pestulence that has grown like a cancer. The problem is the worst of the pestulence would survive in GOVERNMENT bunkers. The biggest criminals have invested their windfall resources that they've stolen from the populace into their survival while letting the infrastructure that their stolen booty was supposed to maintain, crumble. I have high hopes that The Creator will send some type of catastrophic event that will not allow the District of Criminals and the Wall Street Criminals to survive using their stolen booty and it would put them on the same level as the rest the population. I just about said "us" but then I looked behind me and remembered what I have done. Good luck, everyone. You'll need it.
