Noticing Grocery Stores Not as Well Stocked as Usual?
In Arizona here. I've noticed very low stock of milk and other groceries that normally are full stock all the time. I thought it was just my timing but this has been several days now. Talked to a friend inPhoenix, I am up north, she is noticing same thing.
Anyone else seeing this where you live and is this related to the winter storms or what? Kinda freaky and I haven't seen anything about any trucker strikes.

There is very little in the stores around here due to the weather.Any time there is a forecast calling for bad weather people clear the store isles.

I'm in North Phoenix too, and noticed this in the place I normally get water from. They were completely out of their brand of water, they normally have a few pallets of it, and low on the other waters. Also they were really low on bread. I chalked it up to all the snow birds and the store not projecting the right purchasing amounts. Plus it being the beginning of the month.

It's just the weather.

Stores aren't getting their supplies from their distributor. The distributor isn't getting them from the farms/factories.
And the consumer is stockpiling because of the shortages and nasty weather.

It'll pass when the blizzards die down and the snow clears.

Noticed the same yesterday. Not just milk bread, but

frozen veggies, bags of salads out of date, maybe weather related.

here in BFNowhere Canada, there is little in our stores aside from unhealthy processed food. So I would say the stores here were never well stocked.

The organic section is minimal. Gotta go to the market or grow your own stuff to get anyting good.

Noticed it at the local Wal-Mart. Shelves are definitely empty. Plus, they were all out of winter gloves for both men and women. Hubby and I were both taken aback at how empty the shelves were on Sunday. Expected it after Christmas, but they are still empty now.

Northeast is the same. Did you see the news about Kraft declaring a shortage of Velveeta cheese?

Many brands have cut their variety and assortment ... Febreeze, 20 different scents a year ago...now there's about 5 or 6.

Sign of the times.

Yes, I went home to Louisiana over the new years holiday. I was shocked at how low the shelves were. At first, I thought it was because of the holiday, but my sis in law said it was "normal". It is also happening here in North Texas, but not to the degree I saw in La. Scary, I think stores are adjusting according to what people spend.

and we must be spending less.

I'm located near what's called "the crossroads of America" and those roads are SCREWED. While listening to the scanner earlier several semis were jackknifed or stuck and traffic was at a standstill.

great thread. I let my family do the shopping as much as possible - I HATE stores - but this is true for my area, northern Delaware.

had thought it was the weather.

meaning trucks, but it could be a little deeper than that alone.

Re: Noticing Grocery Stores Not as Well Stocked as Usual?
My reply (as it is from England and so not related to your current extreme weather) is more related to the sales industry changing their tactics.

About 10 years ago , when i had to watch every penny, i was lucky to be given £500. I used it to buy and stock up on "non expiry" items. EG in the christmas sale I bought, table cloths, (reduced to 10% so i bought ten) Christmas cards ,....Ditto.

Through the years I used this gift to take advantage of "offers"

Last year AND this i have noticed that stores simply do NOT carry excess stock!

My local shops have been EMPTY of christmas items from the beginng of december.

HUGE POINT!

People only notice lack of stock when it ISN'T there when they want it, which means they did NOT think ahead.

Our last snow scare, (jan 2012) stripped my local stores within 3 days. I had bought stores in the november previous.

SMUG YES but was able to provide for a few pensioners.

my BIG suggestion is THINK AHEAD EVEN IF YOU MAY BE RIDDICULED.

We used to be able to get vegs. from an organic grower in St. Augustine, which is in the northeastern part of FL - not so much anymore.

Yup for the first time ever I could not get eggs milk. Other stuff like meats, fruits, and veggies were old. Had to go to that Wholepaycheck store where I dropped a couple hundred on 3 bags of groceries
