Everyone has infinite knowledge at their fingertips 24/7 with "smart" phones, and they use it to watch videos and go on facebook. This is by far the farthest humans have ever come, and we are dumber than we ever were. It is a sad thing. Last Edited by Brad Daylight on 12/09/2013 08:58 PM "I have felt despair many times in my life, but I do not keep a chair for it." ~Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes Today is a gift, that is why it is called "The Present" “When an opponent declares, “I will not come over to your side,” I calmly say, “Your child belongs to us already… What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time they will know nothing else but this new community.” - Adolf Hitler “If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.” -Oscar Wilde Have a nice day, may God bless you :D |

It is a movie about an “average American” that wakes up 500 years in the future only to discover that he is the most intelligent person by far in the “dumbed down” society that is surrounding him. Unfortunately, that film is a very accurate metaphor for what has happened to American society today. We have become so “dumbed down” that we don’t even realize what has happened to us. But once in a while something comes along that reminds us of how far we have fallen. In Kentucky, an eighth grade exam from 1912 was recently donated to the Bullitt County History Museum. When I read this exam over, I was shocked at how difficult it was. Could most eighth grade students pass such an exam today? Of course not. In fact, I don’t even think that I could pass it. Sadly, this is even more evidence of “the deliberate dumbing down of America” that former Department of Education official Charlotte Iserbyt is constantly warning us about. The American people are not nearly as mentally sharp as they once were, and with each passing generation it gets even worse." [link to endoftheamericandream.com] I think most college grads would have trouble with this test. One I was impressed with was the diversity of the questions. If a student passed the test I would say they have a well-rounded education. |

Yes, as through this world I've wandered I've seen lots of funny men; Some will rob you with a six-gun, And some with a fountain pen. And as through your life you travel, Yes, as through your life you roam, You won't never see an outlaw Drive a family from their home. |

I'm thinking the deliberate dumbing down of Americans through the public school system began sometime around when John D. Rockefeller said, "I do not want a nation of thinkers. User ID: 51312661 United States 12/09/2013 10:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm not a test taker. Too much emphasis is placed on testing because it is a measurement of standardization. Too much emphasis is based on the faulty idea that all children are the same. There are a lot of things I don't remember from childhood schooling. I never saw the importance of memorizing things I could look up. I was never good at English until I had it in college yet today I see people with doctorates that write like 7th graders. Schools have never been good at showing kids how what they are learning is important. Kids need to know. History tells us a lot. Kids need to know how to find out things. I seriously doubt a lot of college students today could find useful things on the internet. Children need to be taught how to work. Schools don't teach that either. Dirtyboy Think beyond impossible. |
