*update: 48,000 words and still going.
chuckle

no, my sweet husband isn't an ass or anything. But he knows how much i likes my glp. So, when I complained about not having the time to finally write this book I have been putting off, he kindly (and timidly) suggested that if I didn't spend so much time CT-porning, I would have the time needed to actually write.

So, now i think i shall compromise by turning glp into a "resource", hahaha!

So, anyone else out there struggling to get the words out? Any success in overcoming writer's block? Any hurdles, struggles, successes?

Maybe we creative writers could have a little cheer leading thread to help keep us going. And also, when we do give in to temptation and log in, this thread in our "recent threads" might shame us into making our visits a little shorter so we can get back to our masterpieces!!

And if GLP is "helping" me out, then he can hardly complain, can he?

What is CT-porning? And what kind of book are you trying to write?

I hold several copyrighted works.

When I experience writer's block, I usually go for a strenuous workout. Something about the endorphin high gets things clicking again for me.

Hey GG, it just takes dedication. I've got two novels published and a book of short stories. The last was self published. It just takes a little time every day. I'm actually working on a prepper novel right now.

THANKS! I love to hear that it is a thing that real people can actually do! I tend to talk myself out of it somewhere around the 40,000 word mark every time. I decide i am not author material - much to my husband's frustration. He has read my writing and says it is more than good enough to be published. And he is both an avid fantasy reader and brutally blunt and honest. he would have told me if i was wasting my time. I know this time i can do it talent-wise. but can i gain that self-discipline i am always lacking now that i have overcome the confidence issue???

That's the hard part. I actually have two novels that I've never submitted because I didnt think they were good enough. Just don't stop at that mark and push through. i had to set a schedule. it was what i did at that time of day no matter what. i treated writing like a 2nd job, because really that's what it is.

interesting!!
i generally tend to work from the middle out in both directions when developing the plot. I never really know the end when i start that part. This is also the first time i have written such a detailed summary of the books before writing. I used to just go straight to the writing part (the fun part). But i always ended up forgetting where i was supposed to be going. So many characters ended up meandering aimlessly through forests, causing me to kill them all and start over. poor characters, i feel sort of bad for them, they were all good in their own rights.

that is how i am treating it this time too. I do work part time, but it is barely cutting it on payday, lol. If ever i was going to finally do it, now is my time. I will never again have so much free time. My husband is a big supporter. I expected him to tell me to go out and work at walmart. that is what anyone else i have known would have said. my ex was more concerned about a steady paycheck, even if it was peanuts, than a big payoff after months or years of blood sweat and tears. Not a lot of people can appreciate that kind of "job".

As a writer - I can tell you for a fact that this site is awesome for the remedy of blockage - many times when I have been blocked - I get on GLP - click on a random thread - then take some of what I read to my own personal creative process (in other words, take the seed and make it grow) and? BOOM writers block solved.

Secondly - depending on what you are writing - many threads have links to all kinds of reference materials.

Happy writing - good luck with your book!

write down your thoughts
in poetic form

once a pattern has formed

it is good for your writing muscle
