(OP) User ID: 36020080 United States 11/23/2013 02:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I feel so horrible for these soldiers. There are a lot of married soldiers who wont be able to spend time with their families on Thanksgiving if this stuff isnt found or written off. Its a lot of weapons that somehow just disappeared. The commander swears they are hot on the trail, and the weapons are just being moved around the base.... Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. The unit isnt even aware of how long the items have been missing, because most of them didnt even have access to the area. Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Anonymous Coward User ID: 49820302 United States 11/23/2013 02:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have been waiting for this to pop up in the news as I have a buddy who is in the unit that is locked down. The missing items are most definitely weapons. So the article is very misleading. Its $50,000 worth of bayonets and scopes and they are making the soldiers search the same area of the air field over and over. Nothing is really being done to find the weapons. So this coupled with the missing drone, very suspicious! I think its CYA time over at FT Drum! Quoting: Brandywine84 Snip: FORT DRUM — Members of an aviation company have been confined to their work area all week amid a search for approximately $50,000 worth of missing equipment. (OP) User ID: 36020080 United States 11/23/2013 03:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is Standard Operating Procedure when sensitive items go missing. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50129485 I went through the same deal only it was only $5000 worth of equipment and it was only a day. If nothing turns up, it all falls on the company commander who is signed for all of them. The commander will have to pay the 50 grand or whatever. I know its standard operating procedure. Its about accountability. The company commander who signed for them did not keep track of the items. Most of the unit didnt even know they were there. If that many weapons are going to be in an unsecured area, the least they could have done was put up a camera to watch them. Most of the unit wasnt even aware they were there. Personally I believe they were shipped out with a previously deployed unit and the paper trail went missing. I just feel for these guys. A lot of them are fathers and mothers. Then the smarter Higher enlisted make everybody search in a known area that the weapons are "NOT", so they can catch the perp sneaking back to the general area to retrieve the equipment Last Edited by Lupe_Ate_My_Tacos on 11/23/2013 04:16 PM One Tequila! User ID: 50329815 United States 11/23/2013 04:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's actually pretty common for equipment to go missing on a field training exercise (FTX). There is usually a rigorous search... lasting a few hours to perhaps 3 days. After that, the time becomes more valuable than the equipment, and the search stops. The soldier(s) who lost the gear get disciplined, and things go back to normal. What is odd about this is case 1. the length of the search 2. there being a published 'valuation' of the missing equipment 3. That it made the civilian news at all It's definitely not a typical situation... but I don't have enough info to do more than vaguely speculate on what is actually "missing" to keep them searching for so long. Even so, my best two guesses are either A) they have a fugitive, not a lost article; and/or B) there are multiple combat weapons involved in the "loss"... BattlesightZero YOU, and only YOU are responsible for maintaining the balance of power between you and the rest of the semi-sentient beings in this world. You cannot disclaim or delegate that responsibility; it is a function of being a living, breathing "adult" in this world. If you can't manage yourself on those terms, someone else *will* manage you on their terms. Your terms are irrelevant. Buy a rifle; prepare to defend yourself. If you don't, what happens is *your* fault. Period. |

Quoting: R&y It's not "priorities" - it's PUNISHING common, ordinary soldiers, and making them spend Thanksgiving apart from their families. Divide & conquer. Keep the troops off guard, and off kilter, make them chase their own tails so much, they'll just finally give in just to get a break. |

Its actually missing equipment, not a fugitive. It is a lot of weapons missing. Not just a few bayonets. More like 120, and 800 scopes. The scopes alone are in their own boxes which is the size of a shoe box. Its not like a little box went missing. It had to have taken time for someone to get all that gear out without being seen. That's why I honestly think they were shipped out previously and the paper trail was lost. I really wanted to see my soldier for thanksgiving. All leave was cancelled. Anonymous Coward User ID: 49801954 United States 11/23/2013 04:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Any possibility the story of missing equipment was cooked up to keep the men on site for other reasons? As in, they moved the equipment elsewhere and reported it stolen so that they could detain this unit? I know nothing about this besides what you've linked so just a "what if" kinda pondering. I mean, after all, this is a conspiracy site lol. |
